Comedy Central is taking us back to South Park early next month. On Friday, it was announced by the network that the long-running animated series will return with its season 26 premiere on Feb. 8, 2023. In addition to making this announcement, a teaser trailer was also released to hype the show’s return, though it doesn’t offer new footage. Regardless, you can check out that teaser below.

This continuation follows last year’s 25th anniversary celebration of the show’s premiere. At the time, the occasion was commemorated with a special concert featuring series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with Primus, Ween, and members of the band Rush. That concert premiered 25 years to the day after the original pilot episode and can be found streaming on Paramount+. Other content exclusive to Paramount+ includes the “movies” South Park: The Streaming Wars parts one and two, South Park: Post Covid, and South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid. Classic episodes of the show are streaming at HBO Max, meanwhile.

South Park Returns

The series is set in the Colorado town of South Park, primarily focusing on the lives of four foul-mouthed children and their families. Now considered to be one of the best TV shows ever made, the series has garned several Primetime Emmy Award wins and other various accolades throughout its run. Continued high viewership and popularity resulted in a high-dollar deal to keep the series on Comedy Central through 2027, guaranteeing South Park will be on the air for years to come. The renewal will make South Park at least 30 seasons, putting it on track to become the biggest contender of possibly overtaking The Simpsons one day as the longest-running animated series of all time.

“Comedy Central has been our home for 25 years and we’re really happy that they’ve made a commitment to us for the next 75 years,” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker said in a statement when the show was renewed. “When we came to ViacomCBS with a different way to produce the show during the pandemic, Chris (McCarthy), Nina (Diaz), Keyes (Hill-Edgar) and Tanya (Giles) were immediately supportive and enabled us to try something new that turned out to be really well received. We can’t wait to get back to doing traditional South Park episodes but now we can also try out new formats. It’s great to have partners who will always take a chance with us.”

Parker and Stone executive produce South Park with Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. Producers include Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell, Jack Shia, Vernon Chatman, Daryl Sancton, Giancarlo Ganziano, John Hansen, David List, Mark Munley, Nate Pellettieri, Greg Postma, Lydia Quidilla, Wonnie Ro, Jenny Shin, and Keo Thongkham.

South Park returns on Wednesday, Feb. 8 on Comedy Central. The new season will be rolled out on Comedy Central internationally throughout the year. The new episodes will also be made available to stream in HD on the official websites for South Park and Comedy Central, as well as the Comedy Central app after the premiere.
