The Venom films have been a favorite for quite some time, with Eddie and Venom having a special place in the hearts of fans. Ever since the first movie’s release in 2018, fans have looked forward to following the story of Eddie and the gooey black alien, Venom. The first, directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Jeff Pinker, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel, was one of the highest-grossing films of 2018, grossing over $856 million worldwide. Its success was followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021.
Given that the first two movies became box office hits, it was only a matter of time before a third movie was announced. With rumors regarding the third movie swirling and fans had expected the official confirmation of Venom 3 for a while, the confirmation of the third installment, given at CinemaCon in April this year, set fans abuzz with excitement for what is to come. The news released by Sony Pictures was met with varying fan reactions. Many took to social media to express their thoughts on Venom 3, with Twitter being a popular outlet for sharing opinions. Here’s what they had to say!

Excitement for Venom 3
Sony Pictures Releasing
News of an addition to the Venom franchise was met with significantly positive reactions from fans. Since the first film’s release, many have been loyally following the story of Eddie and Venom and waiting in hopeful anticipation to see where the story would go. With the loose threads left hanging at the conclusion of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, fans, quite justifiably, had a lot of questions.
Given this, the confirmation of Venom 3 has created quite a buzz among fans. “I’ve been waiting for this announcement!” wrote Twitter user @HdLyoAlYopq2cSi, expressing their excitement. Echoing the same sentiments @miguelreis said:
Fans are excited not only for a continuation of the Venom storyline but also for the chance to see Tom Hardy reprise his role as Eddie Brock and the symbiote Venom. Many have attributed the success of the first two films to Hardy and his performance, and audiences are thrilled to see what the actor may bring to screens in the latest installment. @maeanneforreal wrote:

Most speculations and guesses have revolved around who might be the villain in Venom 3. @dillonafrancis, penning the question, wrote:
@BoyBeyondStars was also excited to see another symbiote villain going up against Venom. Expressing their opinion, the Twitter user said:
“Who’s is he fighting this time maybe Toxin?”
However, not everyone is in favor of seeing another symbiote on screen. Wanting something different from Venom 3 and hoping that Venom would be the only symbiote taking to screens in the movie, @JBudgysmuggler said:
“…If they bring in Knull, Lasher, Phage, Scream, and all the other symbiotes for this one… that would be crazy”
Demand for Spider-Man and Venom to Meet
Many fans have voiced the popular demand for Venom and Spider-Man to finally meet in Venom 3. With the meeting being rumored and teased for quite some time and director Andy Serkis confirming the fact that the two characters would meet at some point in an IGN interview in 2021, fan anticipation for the meeting of the two has been steadily growing. Given the ending of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, fans are now even more hopeful that Venom and Spider-Man may meet in the latest movie.
“Here’s to having a main villain that isn’t another symbiote”
Fans have expressed their disbelief over the two characters not having met thus far in the storyline and have claimed that it is impossible for the two not to encounter each other, given that this is the third installment of the Venom movies. User @platanomuncher said:
A significant portion of excitement for the third movie can also be credited to fans wanting to see Spider-Man finally make an appearance in the Venom films. @rubycat025 took to Twitter to say:
“No way you can make three Venom movies and still not have a Spider-Man pop up”
Fans have also formed their opinions regarding which Spider-Man they’d prefer Eddie Brock and Venom to meet. Hazarding a guess regarding the path the film could take and the possibility of Venom and Spider-Man meeting, @NotBoogey wrote:
“really!?!?Will there be SpiderMan?
I’m also looking forward to the casting announcement!”

“Hopefully he still remembers his time in the MCU. Maybe the third film will be about him trying to figure a way to get back or him trying to find his universe version of Spider-Man. Fingers crossed its Andrew’s Spider-Man he finds.”
Not Everyone Is A Fan
While the Venom movies have acquired their own loyal fanbase over the years, not everyone has been a fan. A few viewers have had issues with the setting and portrayal of the storyline of the films and thought some things should have been done differently. Voicing their disapproval against a third film, user @MorganChrispy99 wrote:
Some also expressed that the Venom films are undeserving of the success they have garnered since 2018. While not completely against the movies, @Theonlytwo2002 said:
“It better be the final venom film and I hope this is Tom Hardy last appearance as Eddie Brock/Venom”
While the reactions to Venom 3 have been mixed, only time will prove if the latest film meets fan expectations or falls below. Unfortunately, with no release date confirmed at the time of writing, we may have to hold on to our opinions for a while longer. However, on a positive note, filming for Venom 3 will begin in the summer of 2023.
“Sorry, but the Venom franchise doesn’t deserve its box office numbers or sequels. The movies aren’t bad, but they not that good either. They’re campy in a bad way b/c it takes itself serious. The PG-13 moniker ruins half the action and violence the comics are known for.”
