Kraven the Hunter has been making headlines for the last several months as the cast Sony’s Villain-Verse film continues to grow. In a recent report from Deadline, Alessandro Nivola has been cast as the “villain” who will take on Kraven the Hunter. Nivola caught a lot of attention when he took on the role of Dickie Moltisanti in last year’s The Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark.
Later this year, he stars in an untitled David O. Russell movie which includes Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Robert DeNiro, Rami Malek, and Anya Taylor Joy among a host of others. He also stars opposite Alison Brie in Jeff Baena’s comedy Spin Me Round which is set to debut at SXSW on March 12th. He just wrapped filming the 20th Century picture Boston Strangler starring opposite Keira Knightly, and now he has found his way into the comic book realm.

Who Will Alessandro Nivola Play in Kraven the Hunter?
Like most films these days, Sony is keeping the details of this film wrapped pretty tight. So knowing which villain the actor is set to play isn’t possible as it has not been announced yet. Nivola joins a previously announced slate of stars: Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the title character, while Fred Hechinger is Kraven’s brother and master of disguise Chameleon. West Side Story’s breakout star Ariana DeBose will take on the role of voodoo priestess Calypso, who is also Kraven’s lover and partner. The blockbuster film also has Academy Award winner Russell Crowe in it also in but in an undisclosed role.
Kraven has had his fair share of battles with the likes of Spider-Man, Daredevil, Deadpool, and even Venom. However, those roles already have actors attached to them, so this could be a new character for the movie or someone that has not been introduced to us yet on film. We know that films often change elements from the source material, that being the case it could be someone that is a member of the Sinister Six. Kraven is very familiar with this group of villains and has teamed up with them several times, maybe the movie will change that common bond.
With a release date scheduled for early 2023, the story follows the title character who is best known as one of Spider-Man’s main antagonists and is always focused on proving that he is the best hunter in the world. Even though Kraven hasn’t been featured in previous Spider-Man many fans speculate the movie will be an origin story with Kraven portrayed as an anti-hero, just like Eddie Brock was in Venom. As well as Morbius, which hits the big screen on April 1st 2022. So is continuing to focus on building their own universe with multiple characters that all have a connection to Spider-Man.
With the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s clear that Sony believes they follow this and ride the blockbuster wave with these unique characters. As far as finding out who Nivola will play, we might have to use our spidey-sense or just wait until Sony makes the announcement.
