We won’t be able to watch Sonic the Hedgehog 2 until April, but the video game-based character still has a special surprise for fans for the holiday season. A livestream was uploaded to YouTube to help ring in the holidays, and as you’ll be able to see when watching it, decorating for Christmas goes a lot faster when you run at super speed. You can check out the video of the stream below, as well as at the livestream playing 24/7 at NickRewind, to see how it looks when Sonic sets up the home for the arrival of Santa Claus.

This is a fun treat for the holiday season, but it’s also to help promote the release of the upcoming sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Following the great success of the original movie, the sequel brings back director Jeff Fowler with a new script by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington with a story by Casey and Miller. It is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno. Executive producers are Haruki Satomi, Yukio Sugino, Shuji Utsumi, Nan Morales, and Tim Miller.

The synopsis for the sequel reads: “The world’s favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. From the filmmakers behind The Fast and the Furious and Deadpool, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 stars James Marsden, Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Jim Carrey returning, alongside new additions Shemar Moore, with Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as the voice of Tails.”

“As incredible as Jim was in the first movie, I feel like this version of Robotnik has allowed him to just go even further and tap into all the stuff that everyone loves about Jim Carrey,” Fowler has also teased of Carrey’s return. “He just loves playing this character, has so much fun doing it, brings so many ideas every day to the set. It’s just completely his creation, and I think audiences are just going to have such an amazing time with it. How can you not? The mustache is amazing. He has literally transformed himself into the Eggman that the fans know from the games, and it’s awesome.”

He added, “He’s just got such an incredible range of talents. It’s awesome. I can’t believe I’ve had the opportunity now to make two movies with him, having just grown up and loved so many of his movies as a kid. So it really is just extraordinary.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 speeds its way into movie theaters on April 8, 2022. In the meantime, you can spend the holiday season by revisiting the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which is currently streaming on Hulu and Paramount+.
