Alison Brie is returning to the big screen with her latest comedy, Somebody I Used to Know. The project is a collaboration between the actress and her husband, Dave Franco, who helms the film. Franco has seen a long career in Hollywood, with notable roles in movies such as The Disaster Artist, 21 Jump Street, Now You See Me, The Lego Movie, and Neighbors. However, Somebody I Used to Know will be the second project with Franco behind the camera, as he made his feature film directorial debut with The Rental in 2020, for which he also wrote the screenplay alongside Joe Swanberg. Brie also wrote the script for the film alongside Franco.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Somebody I Used to Know comes courtesy of Prime Video, following Brie’s character, Ally, as she returns to her hometown, reminiscing about her ex, Sean (Jay Ellis, Top Gun: Maverick). However, after a brief reconnection, Ally realizes everything is not as it seems with Sean, as he’s in an established relationship with someone new. The official trailer for Somebody I Used to Know from Prime Video can be found below.

In the trailer, audiences see the relationships forming between Ally, Sean, and his girlfriend Cassidy, played by Kiersey Clemons (Dope, Sweetheart). But, unlike most romantic comedies, Somebody I Used to Know will look at the complicated emotions and difficulty of losing yourself and re-discovering who you want to be. The official synopsis for the film reads:

Additionally, MovieWeb is proud to present the brand-new poster for Somebody I Used to Know, telling audiences, “The past will bare it all.”

On a trip to her hometown, workaholic Ally reminisces with her ex Sean and starts to question everything about the person she’s become. Things only get more confusing when she meets Cassidy, who reminds her of the person she used to be.

What follows is a voice recording that must be heard to understand, although it may still be difficult to decipher. Check out Brie’s post above for the full, authentic voice recording. In addition, check out Prime Video next month on Feb. 10 for the premiere of Somebody I Used to Know, starring Alison Brie alongside Jay Ellis, Kiersey Clemons, Danny Pudi, and more.

“Hey I’m Dave Franco. And I’m Alison Brie. And we wrote a romantic comedy called Somebody I Used to Know. Dave directed it and I star in it and the trailer comes out tomorrow. And the whole thing just has us feeling nostalgic for when we first met and we found an old voice recording from 10 years ago. This is a real recording of Alison eloquently expressing her love for me. I saved it in my phone as ‘Alison drunk.’”
