Fans of Zack Snyder’s DC Universe are some of the most undeterred in the world. After overcoming the odds to help instigate the director’s cut of Justice League, the dedicated fanbase, who still want to see the Synderverse play out on screen, have not accepted that the franchise as it was is dead at Warner Bros. Or perhaps they have, as having spent more than a year sharing the #RestoreThe Snyderverse tag on social media at every opportunity, they have now changed tact and adjusted this to a new petition for Warner Bros. to sell the Snyderverse to Netflix.

The imaginatively devised hashtag of #SellSnynerVersetoNetflix has trended in the last few days as fans continued to attempt to get the movies they want to see from the former DCEU get made somewhere, by someone. Of course, it has become increasingly clear that James Gunn does not intend picking through the threads that are left of Snyder’s original vision for the interconnected franchise, and that means fans are now trying something different to have all their dreams come true.

There are clear reasons for fans choosing Netflix as their location of choice for the Snyderverse to find its feet again, as Zack Snyder already has a strong relationship and deal in place with the streamer. Having delivered the first two movies in his Army of The Dead franchise, and currently working on Rebel Moon, fans clearly feel like it makes sense for him to then be given the chance to bring the old DC franchise back to life with Netflix’s help.

Is There A Chance That Warner Bros. Could Sell the Snyderverse to Netflix?

     Warner Bros.

Probably not is the simple answer. Movie rights are complex enough to deal in without having part of the DC franchise that Warner Bros. currently have control over being sold off to Netflix. Of course there could be the option of Warner Bros. making the movies for Netflix, but with the relationship between the studio and the streamer being on shaky ground right now, that doesn’t seem a probable avenue either.

After the arrival of WDB’s David Zaslav, the arrangement between Netflix and the studio, which sees the streaming paying producers of shows provided by Warner Bros. over an 18-24 month period, was said to be unacceptable. For that reason, all new shows being provided by Warner Bros. to Netflix have been suspended other than those already with deals in place such as season 2 of The Sandman.

While it is another valiant effort by Snyderverse fans to see that particular universe brought back to life, perhaps now is the time to admit that the future of Zack Snyder’s Justice League vision is non-existent. With James Gunn on the verge of announcing the first slate of the new DCU sometime soon, things have moved on beyond any point where a return of Snyder’s DC world could work. However, that doesn’t mean that those fans will just slip away, and we can expect a lot more noise if Gunn’s plans and the resulting movies and shows don’t live up to lofty expectations.
