When his daughter gets engaged for the eighth time, Steve Martin is certainly not thrilled in the fake trailer for Father of the Bride Part 8. On Saturday night, Martin appeared as a co-host on Saturday Night Live alongside Martin Short, and one sketch was styled as a trailer promoting the faux sequel. Martin reprises his role as patriarch George Banks, who is financially tapped out after paying for seven previous marriages. That makes him very unenthused when his 52-year-old daughter, Annie (Heidi Gardner), reveals her latest engagement.

Check out the sketch below, via SNL on YouTube.

“Three decades, seven divorces later, Annie’s back and ready to give marriage an eighth shot,” the narrator states.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Martin’s George laments how he won’t be able to pay for the wedding, revealing how Annie’s mother, Nina (Chloe Fineman), is still driving for Lyft to pay off the seventh wedding. But that isn’t stopping plans from moving forward, bringing about some special appearances from others in the segment. That, of course, includes co-host Martin Short appearing as Franck, who will serve as the wedding planner.

Annie’s brother Frank, played by Kieran Culkin in the original film, also makes a special appearance, with Culkin reprising the role. Just to remind viewers of that fact, images of a much younger Culkin from that film are shown after his cameo in the skit, as the narrator jokes that everyone forgot he was in that movie, “even him.”

Another special surprise happens before the end. Selena Gomez, playing herself, steps into the home and announces herself as the wedding singer, and she’ll want $1.8 million to perform. That has Martin’s George collapsing into the sofa as everyone else breaks out into a dance. The cameo from Gomez also marked a reunion with Martin and Short, with whom she co-stars in Hulu’s acclaimed series Only Murders in the Building.

Saturday Night Live Has One Episode Left in 2022

     NBC

There’s just one more episode left of Saturday Night Live for the year. Austin Butler of Elvis fame will be hosting the Dec. 17 show, but it was revealed on Saturday night that the episode would come with a change. After it was previously announced that Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be the musical guest, it’s now been confirmed that Lizzo will replace them. Lizzo served as host and musical guest on an April 2022 episode of the show after making her musical guest debut in 2019.

You can stream episodes of Saturday Night Live on Peacock.
