Forgetting Sarah Marshall star Jason Segel and Hollywood legend Harrison Ford try their hand at therapy in the newly released trailer for Shrinking. The series springs from the hilarious minds of Jason Segel and Ted Lasso’s Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, with the footage revealing our first look at the new Apple Original comedy series, which is now scheduled to land on Apple TV+ on January 27, 2023. Shrinking follows a grieving therapist, played by How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel, who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own.

The upcoming first season will consist of 10-episodes, written by Emmy Award-winning Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence, who is also known for the likes of Scrubs and Rush Hour, alongside Emmy Award-winning Ted Lasso star, writer, and co-executive producer Brett Goldstein and Jason Segel.

Shrinking stars Indiana Jones and Star Wars icon Harrison Ford in one of his first major television roles, with Ford set to play Dr. Phil Rhodes, who is described as a “down-to-earth and sharp ‘blue-collar shrink’ and pioneer in cognitive behavioral therapy. He shares a practice with two of his protégés, Jimmy (Segel) and Gaby. He has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him out of his comfort zone as he deals with intrusive friends, his estranged family, and his legacy.” This should give the actor plenty of opportunity to show audiences something a little different.

In addition to Segel and Ford, Shrinking stars Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, and Lukita Maxwell. The new series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where Bill Lawrence is under an overall deal, and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel, Goldstein, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Randall Winston, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer serve as executive producers. Lawrence, Segel, and Goldstein created the series and wrote the first episode, which Ponsoldt directed.

Harrison Ford Will Also Lead Yellowstone Spinoff 1923 on the Small Screen

As well as starring in Shrinking, Harrison Ford will continue to grace the small screen with his presence in the Yellowstone spinoff, 1923. Picking up a century before the events of the hugely popular Yellowstone, 1923 is the next installment of the Dutton family origin story. The prequel will introduce a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob and matriarch Cara, following a generation of the Dutton family in 1923. The series will pick up with the family during a time of various hardships, including Western Expansion, pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression. Each of these plagues the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.

Created by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan, 1923 will be led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren alongside Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn, Robert Patrick, and Timothy Dalton and is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 18, on Paramount+.

Shrinking meanwhile is scheduled to premiere globally with the first two episodes on Friday, January 27, on Apple TV+, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday.
