The She-Hulk trailer may have brought a mixed reaction from fans, with some criticizing the design of Marvel’s latest addition to the MCU and others not massively impressed with the CGI effects on display. However, the trailer now has the second largest debut for a Marvel Studios Disney+ series with a massive 78 million views in the first 24 hours, which puts it behind only The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which had the added benefit of being released to a Super Bowl audience.
The arrival of Jennifer Walters in the MCU has been one of the most anticipated Disney+ shows of the year. For that reason, it has not been surprising to see so much interest in the first full trailer for the series, especially when it contains the first actual footage of Tatiana Maslany’s green giant in action. Appearing alongside Mark Ruffalo’s Smart Hulk, the character is seen as both her regular human self and her transformed jade giant alter-ego, and not everyone was immediately sold on what they saw.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
It was first believed that She-Hulk was going to be released on Disney+ sometime around now, but instead, there is still a three-month wait until the show premieres in the middle of August. Many have speculated whether the rumored May release was at one time correct and Marvel Studios decided to delay the show to give them more time on the CGI work needed to make the many hulked out characters come to life convincingly on screen. While this is something we will probably never know for sure, it is not unfair to say that there are some fans who hope that this is true and there will be some slight adjustments made to She-Hulk before her late summer debut.
She-Hulk Has A Number of Links To The Wider MCU Story
Marvel Studios/Disney
While recent series Moon Knight made a big play to be almost completely outside the ongoing MCU narrative, She-Hulk is a return to a connected universe with a number of crossovers already apparent from the trailer. As well as the return of Ruffalo’s Hulk, the trailer reintroduces Tim Roth’s Emil Blonksky/Abomination, who was missing from the MCU until a shock appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings where he was last seen being led by Wong through a sling-ring portal to a then undisclosed location. From the trailer, we now know that he was led to a holding cell that has been seen again in the She-Hulk trailer. Based on the timeline of events, this could mean that we will see Ruffalo become Bruce Banner again by the end of the series, which would then tie into his appearance in the post credit scene of Shang-Chi.
While there are a number of rumors around who else could turn up in the series thanks to She-Hulk’s many comic book connections to other characters, and the fact that she is heading up a law department specializing in superhero cases, there is a lot more to be seen in the 9-episode series when it premieres on August 17 on Disney+.
