She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ended its first season, showing the MCU could do a different kind of project: a fun, fourth-breaking sitcom. The show uses some ideas from the original comic, while also speaking about some of today’s themes like internet trolls, incels, and women still being treated as less in the workforce, while still having adventures with a big, green woman. Here are She-Hulk’s funniest moments, ranked:

8 Captain America is Confirmed Not a Virgin
Disney Platform Distribution
A first episode running gag has Jen (Tatiana Maslany) asking her cousin Bruce (Mark Ruffalo) repeatedly, if Captain America was a virgin or not. Bruce isn’t answering. It looks like we might never find out, as even the ending credits have artwork of Jen trying to solve the mystery. It’s in the post-credit scene that we get the answer, as Jen is “drunk” and “crying”, because she feels bad for Captain America, when Bruce finally answers the question many have made over the years: Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is not a virgin. Jen’s reaction was priceless, showing us that we were going to have fun with the show.

7 The Boba Café Bootleg Superhero Merchandise
Nikki (Ginger Gonzaga) and Pug (Josh Segarra) are looking for a superhero tailor to design She-Hulk’s suits. They end up at what looks like the strangest of covers: The Boba Café. They try to play it smooth and know what they’re doing, but it’s not working. When they finally get access to the super-secret hideout, it’s just a guy selling off-brand “Avongers” merchandise. They’re forced to buy a t-shirt to get the real information, although in the next scene they appear with more Avongers merchandise that they’ve bought of their own volition. It’s funny to see Josh Segarra in this role because we’re used to seeing him as a dark, brooding anti-hero in Arrow.
6 Therapy With Supervillains
Jen is sad; she slept with a guy who seemed like he got her, and after sex, he left without a note or anything. That’s why when she ends up in the surreal group therapy with supervillains, she talks about it and comes clean. The sincere and the absurd both meet in this scene, as every emotion she’s feeling is absolutely real, while sharing it with a man-bull, a kind of vampire, and a guy dressed as a porcupine, who doesn’t want to take off his mask. This scene shows the real emotions behind the pathos of being a green, giant woman superhero. It also shows She-Hulk’s chemistry with everyone in the room, proving why she should join The Avengers.
5 Daredevil’s Walk of Shame
Sometimes a visual gag is all you need to make us laugh. The image of Daredevil (Charlie Cox), shoes in hand, walking down a street in sunny California, is the sight we never knew we needed. It’s one of the best moments in the series; one that proves why this show is different from any other MCU-Disney+ series. Not only is there sex and walks of shame, but there’s also the image of how ridiculous Daredevil’s suit might look in bright daylight.
4 The ’70s-Style Episode Intro
The first season’s last episode starts with an homage/parody of The Incredible Hulk TV series from the ’70s, led by Lou Ferrigno. The aspect ratio, the music, the clothes, the recreation of sequences, and Jen transforming into a bodybuilder and not CGI make us remember the original show. It also works in the episode, as it’s a nightmare Jen is having after Hulking out at the gala. With every detail, the sequence is getting funnier, but they saved the best for last, as we found both Jen and Bruce in ’70s hair and styled clothing. Ruffalo’s look with the afro and the sideburns makes us laugh every time.
3 K.E.V.I.N. Reveal
When She-Hulk confronts her show’s writers about the season finale, they start talking about K.E.V.I.N., and how he’s a genius, and they would murder to protect them. At this point, we’re all thinking they’re talking about Kevin Feige, the mind behind the whole MCU. So, She-Hulk goes to meet him and finds something different: she meets the Knowledge Enhanced Visual Interconnectivity Nexus, AKA K.E.V.I.N. This meta moment, with a great Maslany performance, is used to talk about many of Marvel’s blind spots, while also asking for the X-Men.
Director Kat Coiro told Variety: “Kevin had a huge hand in that finale and in the character of K.E.V.I.N. Ironically, I was more squeamish about it than they were. I was like, “Are we going too far? Are we throwing Marvel and fans under the bus by putting down Marvel films?” They have such a self-deprecating, irreverent sense about themselves and were totally willing to poke fun at themselves.”
2 Wong and Madisynn’s friendship
Patty Guggenheim was the surprising star of the show after her appearance in episode four as the tipsy, fun, party goddess Madisynn. The character was an instant internet sensation and meme queen. It only got better when we found out the combination we didn’t know we needed: Madisynn being BFF with Wong (Benedict Wong). Their chemistry is off the charts in the yin and yang kind of way, and now the only thing we want is a spinoff of these two hanging out, having parties, and watching shows at Kamar Taj. Who needs Dr. Strange as a friend when you can have Madisynn?
1 She-Hulk Breaks the Fourth Wall into Marvel Studios
The first season finale episode was starting to look by the numbers: villains and heroes fighting all at once, someone uses She-Hulk’s powers against her, and the only thing missing was some kind of portal opening in the sky to have the super-hero-movie-end-bingo. This was the moment when She-Hulk: Attorney at Law proved it wasn’t like any other MCU series, making it its most daring show yet, as She-Hulk stopped everything, went to the Disney+ menu, and left her own show to talk with the writers and ask some hard questions about that ending, rewriting it herself in the process. It’s as surprising as it’s funny, proving why this show is so unique and should come back for a second season.
About the whole scene, director Kat Coiro told Indiewire: “We are aware — Jennifer Walters is aware that she is on a television show, that she has a platform, that people are watching her, with the breaking of the fourth wall, you get to be a little more self-aware, and so you get to address these things head-on in a way that’s pretty exciting.”
