She-Hulk: Attorney at Law delivered a surprise new comedy into the MCU thanks to another appearance by Wong, who was teamed up with instant hit character, Madisynn, played by Patty Guggenheim. While the series so far has brought out some trolls, who have used the show’s jokey format to suggest the MCU has gone south of late, the fourth episode revealed a new comedic duo, but according to director Kat Coiro, some of the pair’s funniest scenes were never scripted.
Benedict Wong’s ever-popular Sorcerer Supreme Wong returned to She-Hulk this week, and as Tatiana Maslany’s title character pointed out while breaking the fourth wall, everyone loves Wong. However, this time around, the Sorcerer ended up getting himself an unexpected buddy in Madisynn, a comedic gem of a character who drops in on Wong in the most unexpected of ways…at least for him.

However, it seems that one of the pair’s best moments together, which comes in the post-credits scene, was never in the script and just came from the actors’ natural chemistry and flair for comedy. Director Coiro told TVLine:
“When Wong and Madison are riffing with each other…? That didn’t exist in the script. That came purely from the actors’ comedic chemistry and us going, ‘We’ve got to throw some cameras on these two, because they’re so funny.’”
She-Hulk’s Madisynn Was a No Brainer for Kat Coiro
Marvel Studios
While the character of Madisynn has instantly captured the public attention, it seems that She-Hulk’s director was always going to have Patty Guggenheim in the show in some capacity. As she explained, wherever you find Kat Coiro, you can usually find Patty Guggenheim. She said:
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has many colorful characters, but there are fewer who have made such an entrance as Madisynn, “with a Y but not where you think it is.” First appearing as an audience member at Donny Blaze’s magic show, Madisynn soon finds herself being put through a sling-ring portal, which eventually leads her to Wong. While Wong is more interested in stopping second-rate magician Blaze from causing all kinds of damage, it later becomes apparent that Wong and Madisynn have formed a surprising bond – mainly over TV shows.
“If you do a little deep dive on Kat Coiro, you will find Patty Guggenheim is there all the time. I do not go anywhere without that woman. She is a comedic genius. When I brought her up [for the She-Hulk role], nobody was familiar with her. But then she came in and auditioned for us and everybody – the Marvel executives, [including] Wendy Jacobson and Sean Earley… [showrunner] Jessica [Gao] – everyone watching that audition was actually crying with laughter. Tears streaming down their faces.”
Whether we will see Madisynn again in She-Hulk is unclear, but having been given her own character poster for the show, it would not be surprising to see her strut onto the screen again somewhere down the line.
