With more and more attention and grandeur circling the Berlin International Film Festival (otherwise known as the Berlinale) these days, the films vying to participate in this prestigious event are also gathering bountiful recognition. One that’s especially in the spotlight is Rebecca Miller’s latest project; She Came to Me. Per a release from The Hollywood Reporter, the film is set to headline the 73rd Berlinale this year on Feb. 16.
She Came to Me (2023) is a new romantic comedy/drama film directed by Rebecca Miller that is filled to the brim with A-list talent, including Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Anne Hathaway (Interstellar), Marisa Tomei (Spider-Man: No Way Home), as well as Polish actress Joanna Kulig (Cold War), and Broadway star Brian d’Arcy James (Hamilton). Hathaway is also a producer on the film alongside Rebecca Miller, Damon Cardasis, Pamela Koffler, Christine Vachon, and Len Blavatnik. Berlinale directors Mariëtte Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrain said of the film they chose to open the event:
The film’s premise, which takes place in New York City, centers around a composer named Steven Lauddem (Dinklage), who finds himself utterly stuck in a creative block while trying to complete the score for an opera that could set up his comeback. His wife and, ironically, his former therapist Patricia (Hathaway) insists that he do what most artists need and set out into the world in search of the inspiration that will help get him back on track. While he does, he rediscovers his lost passion in a way that gives him “more than he bargained for,” per the film’s synopsis.
“We are very pleased to open this festival edition with an irresistible comedy that builds upon the everyday conflicts of western society…The characters, conceived by Rebecca Miller and incarnated by fantastic actors choose to follow the inspiration of the moment instead of being led by societal dictates. Like a pre-code Hollywood film, She Came to Me is a magical ode to the freedom of expression."

With films such as She Came to Me (2023) and Tár (2022) starring A-list talent headlining the event, more and more actors, not just from the West but from all over the world, have been traveling overseas to take part, both on the carpet and behind the scenes. Actress Kristen Stewart is heading the International Jury for this year’s event. Steven Spielberg will also be attending to receive the Honorary Golden Bear award for lifetime achievement.
