The Spiderwick Chronicles, a popular book series turned film franchise, has recently added Jack Dylan Grazer to the cast. Grazer is best known for his role as Freddy Freeman in the DC film Shazam!. He reprised the role in the sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, set to be released in 2023. In addition to his work in film and television, Grazer also had notable roles in the television series It and We Are Who We Are. According to Variety, Grazer is the latest addition to the cast of the Spiderwick Disney+ TV series adaptation, which also includes Lyon Daniels, Noah Cottrell, Mychala Lee, and Joy Bryant.
The Spiderwick Chronicles is a series of children’s fantasy novels written by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. The series consists of eight books published between 2003 and 2004. The books follow the story of the Grace siblings - Jared, Simon, and Mallory - who discover a hidden world of fantasy and danger after moving into the Spiderwick Estate. Upon exploring the house, they discover a field guide written by their great-uncle Arthur Spiderwick. The field guide reveals the existence of a hidden world of creatures and magical beings that exist alongside the human world. As the Grace siblings begin to uncover the secrets of the Spiderwick Estate, they must also deal with a group of magical creatures who will stop at nothing to get their hands on the field guide. Along the way, they are aided by a friendly boggart named Thimbletack.

The TV adaptation appears to be very similar to the source material, as the synopsis indicates that the series will follow the primary plot line of the novel series. Jack Dylan Grazer will be voicing the character of Thimbletack and hence will not be physically appearing on-screen. His character is further described as “hundreds of years old, Thimbletack is still a teenager amongst his kind, a mischief-maker with an explosive temper. He could be a great help to the Grace children…if only he could learn to control his own larger than life emotions.”

Cast and Creative Team for the Upcoming Disney+ Series
Disney+
The Spiderwick Chronicles was previously adapted into a film in 2008, starring Freddie Highmore as the Grace siblings Jared and Simon. While the movie received positive reviews, it did not perform well at the box office. One of the challenges the film faced was trying to fit the complex story into a limited runtime. The new Disney+ series adaptation will benefit from being a long-form series, allowing more time to explore the story and characters in greater depth.
The lead roles of Jared and Simon Grace in the series have been filled by actors Lyon Daniels and Noah Cottrell, indicating that the show may feature non-identical versions of the twins. In addition, Christian Slater has been cast as the main antagonist, Mulgarath, an evil ogre. Bryant and Joy will portray the twins’ mother and sister, respectively. The series will be directed by She-Hulk director Kat Coiro for the first two episodes, with Aron Eli Coleite serving as showrunner. The production team also includes producers Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, and Julie Kane Ritsch.
With the main cast now in place, production on the Disney+ series is expected to commence soon.
