Released back in 2019, the first Shazam! introduced audiences to Asher Angel as Billy Batson, a troubled orphan searching for his biological mother, who is chosen by the ancient wizard Shazam as his champion. When he speaks the word “Shazam” he is transformed into Zachary Levi, his superhero alter-ego, who possesses “the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury.”

Shazam! remains one of the best-reviewed outings in the DC Cinematic Universe, with the sequel all set to pick up with Billy Batson and his adoptive family as fully-fledged heroes facing their greatest threat.

“Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos,” the official synopsis for Shazam! Fury of the Gods reads. “But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.”
