The creative mind behind shows like Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad has a new series coming to Peacock, based on his Ted movies. The original film was released in 2012, focusing on John Bennett, a man whose childhood wish of bringing his teddy bear to life came true. The film starred Mark Wahlberg as John and Seth MacFarlane as his lovable and vulgar teddy bear, Ted. The movie was a huge success, raking in over $500 million at the box office on a $50 million budget. The sequel, Ted 2, was released three years later, and although it wasn’t the smash hit the original was, it was still considered a success.
The streaming service Peacock will now be home to the Ted T.V. series. There isn’t an official release date for the show; however, Ted is expected to arrive sometime in 2022 or early 2023. The process hasn’t been easy for MacFarlane, who discussed some of the trouble he’s encountered along the way. In an interview with G.Q., the writer/director/actor explained the difficulty in crafting a 22-minute T.V. series versus a feature-length film.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
If anyone has the talent to transition a character from film to T.V seamlessly, it’s Seth MacFarlane. His experience in the industry is vast, working on films like A Million Ways to Die in the West and live-action television shows like The Orville. It will be interesting to see what he does with the Ted T.V. series.
“It’s interesting, we’re doing a Ted series now for Peacock and initially it’s like ‘Okay, this is a 22-minute series.’ To do these moments that have nothing to do with the story, but are just real asides that are so much a part of what the movie was, we’re having to kind of really think how we’re doing this and restructure it. It’s one of those things about comedy that’s so strange is that things that don’t move the story forward are not always things you want to pull out. It illustrates who these people are.”
