Secret Invasion is an upcoming American television miniseries that will premiere exclusively on Disney+. The series is created by Kyle Bradstreet, and is based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. Secret Invasion is intended to take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. Kyle Bradstreet will serve as the head writer, while also serving as an executive producer alongside Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Jonathan Schwartz. The series is also being produced by Marvel Studios.
Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury, the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who is working with the Skrulls in deep space. Ben Mendelsohn will return as Talos, who is the leader of a Skrull sect, and an ally of Fury. Additionally, Kingsley Ben-Adir has been cast as the “lead villain”, with no further details about his character at this time. Also set to appear in the upcoming series is Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, and Christopher McDonald in undisclosed roles. The current synopsis for Secret Invasion reads as, Fury and Talos try to stop the Skrulls who have infiltrated the highest spheres of the Marvel Universe.
For those that aren’t familiar with the Secret Invasion event that took place in the Marvel Comics, it actually turned out to be a major event in the Marvel Universe. The comic book event involved the Skrulls, a race of shape-shifting aliens, infiltrating the Marvel Universe, and masquerading as the heroes in an attempt to conquer Earth. It will be interesting to see how Marvel Studios will implement this storyline into the MCU since the Skrulls were depicted more as refugees trying to find a safe place to call home in Captain Marvel. However, the Skrulls that were shown so far in the MCU doesn’t necessarily represent the entire Skrulls’ alien race.
With most of the plot details for Secret Invasion being kept under wraps, it’ll only be a matter of time before new details emerge. Secret Invasion is expected to premiere exclusively on Disney+ sometime in 2022. It has also been confirmed that the series will consist a total of six episodes with a run time between 40-50 minutes. Secret Invasion will also be part of phase four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
