Paramount Plus is adding another superhero film to its list of exclusive movies with its latest project, Secret Headquarters, starring Owen Wilson (Loki, Marry Me). While movies centered on the superhero plot are quite common at the moment, with DC and Marvel putting out their fair share, this latest movie promises to be something special.

Geared to appeal to both kids and adults alike, Tanya Giles, the chief programming officer at Paramount Streaming, spoke to Deadline about Secret Headquarters.

True to its word, Secret Headquarters is a movie that becomes a family affair. If the trailer for the film is anything to go by, the movie ties together the perfect amount of action and heartwarming family relationships, making it a summer film that is perfect for those of all ages. With the film to be released in the near future, here’s everything to know about Secret Headquarters.

Secret Headquarters: The Plot

For the most part, Paramount Plus has kept details about the plot of Secret Headquarters under wraps. From what we know, for now, the narrative of the film is set to follow a father who appears to be living a double life. Upon stumbling into an apparent headquarters in the basement of his family home, a youngster begins to suspect that his father may not be who he seems to be.

His withdrawn father may actually be so removed because he is a superhero in secret!

An official description of the film was provided through the recently released trailer for the movie. The description of the Paramount+ UK & Ireland trailer also dropped another tidbit about the film; the superhero dad in the movie is to be called “The Guard.”

The trailer depicting the action-packed but still family-oriented film was released by Paramount+ on July 15, 2022.

“ While hanging out after school, Charlie and his friends discover the headquarters of the world’s most powerful superhero hidden beneath his home. When villains attack, they must team up to defend the headquarters and save the world. ”

Secret Headquarters: The Cast & Crew

The cast of the film has some notable names, with Owen Wilson set to take on the lead role. Wilson has been noted for his roles in movies including Marley & Me (2008), Starsky and Hutch (2004), and, more recently, Marry Me (2022). The actor is noted to have made a name for himself after his role as John Beckwith in the 2005 film Wedding Crashers.

Wilson is neither a stranger to the genre of Secret Headquarters nor to the role he is set to take on. Having had a notable track record in the genre of family movies as well as comedy, Wilson also played agent Mobius M. Mobius in the Loki series.

Owen Wilson will not be the only Marvel actor who will be joining the cast of Secret Headquarters. Actor Michael Peña, who is set to take on a role in the film, has also played the role of Luis, the best friend and former cellmate of Scott Lang in the Ant-Man franchise.

The rest of the cast includes Walker Scobell, Jesse Williams, Levy Tran, Momona Tamada, Jessie Mueller, and Abby James Witherspoon. Walker Scobell is reported to be taking on the role of Charlie Kincaid, while Jessie Mueller is set to play Lily Kincaid. Playing a youngster paired together with a superhero is not a new role for Scobell, having previously held the role of 12-year-old Adam Reed in Netflix’s The Adam Project alongside Ryan Reynolds and Zoe Saldana.

Secret Headquarters is being steered by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. This is not the first time the duo have worked together. Known as a team and best friends, Joost and Schulman have previously worked on projects such as Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3, Paranormal Activity 4, Nerve, and Project Power. The directors are also involved in the screenplay of the film alongside writer Josh Koenigsberg. Secret Headquarters is being produced by Paramount Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, with it being based on an original draft put together by Christopher Yost. Yost has previously worked on other notable films, including the MCU’s Thor movies, such as Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: The Dark World (2013).

Release Date

The film has gone through a few delays, but a release date for the movie has finally been set. Although the movie was scheduled to have a theatrical release, Secret Headquarters is now set to premiere directly on Paramount+ starting August 12, 2022.
