We typically have to settle for a sink’s drip of information on Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. We get leaks, sketchy deep fake YouTube “trailers” and Photoshop jobs, and even sketchier tweets claiming to have breaking news on casting or plot details. Every now and then, a genuine scrap of news will be flung down from the ornate table of the Marvel lords. We’re forced to get by on these lean bits of information until Disney+ Day and, of course, the big stage itself, San Diego Comic-Con.

Official movie announcements, casting reveals, and the lion’s share of Marvel Cinematic Universe news comes from this vaunted event. We got a slew of MCU Phase 4 and 5 teasers from Marvel in 2021. Have any of these projects evolved from concept to the script page? If there’s any news to be shared, from cosmic rays right on down through a certain team of mutants, hopefully, it comes out of San Diego Comic-Con.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Here are the MCU announcements we’d like to see made at SDCC 2022.

The Who and When of the Fantastic Four

     Marvel Studios / Disney

It’s safe to say that if Fox didn’t own, and botch, the Fantastic Four before the Disney merger that Marvel’s First Family would have made their MCU debut long ago. But it works out that the FF haven’t been exhausted like Steve Rogers and Tony Stark and a slew of other characters who might be bowing out of the franchise. The team will likely be the cornerstone of their respective phase of the MCU, taking the places of the aforementioned departed heroes.

We were teased with a shiny new “4” logo in 2021, signaling the upcoming arrival of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gave us a Reed Richards appearance with the fancast cameo of John Krasinski rocking the blue tights. Will that casting stick? Or was it just a one-off to appease fans of the concept? Hopefully, we get some answers on Reed and the team beyond a vague stinger at SDCC.

Any Information on the X-Men Reboot

     Marvel Entertainment

Of the heavy hitters recently snapped up by Marvel, we’ve heard the least about the X-Men. Sure, we’ve had a slew of Wolverine casting rumors and wish list actors tweeted out into the world. But Marvel and Kevin Feige have been maddingly silent on when the beloved gang of mutants will be making their MCU comeback after their Fox iteration ended with the whimper that was Dark Phoenix.

Mutants were referenced vaguely in the finale of Ms. Marvel, a week before SDCC 2022’s kickoff. The timing could be coincidental but could also be the primer for a bigger announcement on the heels of the reference. This could be equated to the appearances of both Daredevil and Kingpin less than a week apart in their respective movie (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and show (Hawkeye). Will they start with the original ’63 lineup and leave a loner Wolverine to wander through his own solo film to start? Or will they introduce a massive team right off the bat? Will they announce anything related to the X-Men? With such noticeable radio silence on Xavier’s squad, maybe they’re saving it for a big occasion.

A Truly Official Daredevil Announcement

     Netflix

Speaking of the Man Without Fear, one of the hottest subjects of rumors and hearsay has been the future, if any, of Daredevil in the MCU. It’s been all but confirmed that Matt Murdock and his alter ego will be joining the ranks of his fellow Marvel heroes, but it’s stopped short of a full-throated official announcement from Marvel Studios and Feige.

We got the No Way Home cameo, news of an in-development Disney+ series, and confirmation of upcoming Daredevil and Kingpin appearances in the Echo series. Despite all of this positive development, Feige has yet to unveil the MCU stamped plans for Daredevil. Are they saving this big reveal for SDCC? The timing would work out well between all the DD teasers along with Kingpin’s appearance in Disney+’s Hawkeye series.

Deadpool 3

     20th Century Fox

We know that this highly anticipated and delayed threequel is in the works, with writers on board, a pledge from Disney to let the blood and vulgarity flow, and Ryan Reynolds itching to get back into the red suit. All of this news came as a huge relief from fans who worried we might not get a full Deadpool trilogy at all. So now what? How’s the script coming? Who’s the bad guy? Who’ll be playing them? Will Cable make an appearance, along with the rest of X-Force? Just an approximate release date would be welcome since it’s been a while since the Merc with a Mouth graced the screen in all his bawdy glory.

There’s no indication that any blockbuster news will be dropping at San Diego Comic-Con, but if Marvel is known for anything, it’s keeping a close guard on their secrets.
