Moving Ghostface to New York Adds a Whole New Element to the Scream Franchise

“These kids are running away, and Ghostface is still finding them in the most beautiful city but also the most terrifying because it’s so crowded and it can be aggressive,” says returning cast member Melissa Barrera of the sequel.
Barrera goes on to reveal that Scream VI will pick up soon after the events of last year’s Scream, and finds the characters dealing with the trauma of the killings while it’s still fresh in their minds. “Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie,” Barrera adds. “Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world. So the trauma is still very fresh. One of my favorite parts about this movie is that we really get to see how the happenings of the last movie affected them. We get to really see the baggage that they’re carrying now and how each of them is dealing with it differently.”
Courtney Cox, who returns as Scream staple and legacy survivor Gale Weathers in Scream VI, believes that transporting Ghostface to New York adds a whole new element to the ongoing horror franchise. “Bringing Ghostface to New York adds an entirely new element to the story,” the actress explains. “Taking the character out of a small town and putting them in the heart of the city that never sleeps is more terrifying than ever.”
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, Scream VI is scheduled to be released on March 10, 2023.
