“The Scream saga continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
Who’ll Be Back
Paramount Pictures
Those four survivors include the new final girls of the series. Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), who we find out in the last movie, is the illegitimate daughter of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), who carried out the original Ghostface killings with his partner Stu Macher (Mathew Lilliard). Joining Sam is her younger sister Tara (Jenna Ortega), who’s played by the first celebrity to survive a Scream opening.
Joining the sisters is another set of siblings, Mason Gooding and Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, respectively. Who survived despite being black and, in Mindy’s case, They are related to Randy Meeks (Jaime Kennedy), who lost his life during the events of Scream 2 in a move that original screenwriter Kevin Williamson says he regrets. Luckily for the heroes, Mindy’s there to pick up her uncle’s slack as the resident horror movie buff.
These four survivors will be joined by a couple more returning characters. Such as Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), who might be the only element of Scream 4 that is universally beloved. They’ll also be Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, who might become the only actor besides Roger L. Jackson to appear in every film installment.
Unfortunately, not joining the survivors is Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), which will be a first for the series. That was due to a case of a pay dispute between the studio and her actress. Of course, some are still holding out hope for a surprise cameo. Also not returning is David Arquette as Dewey Riley, but that was due to a case of his character dying despite showing an unusual amount of resilience in the previous installments.
