Actress Hayden Panettiere is back for more slasher horror as she returns to the role of Kirby Reed for upcoming sequel Scream 6. Spotted on set, an image of Panettiere was shared by the official Scream Twitter account and should have fans excited to see her once again come face to face with Ghostface. You can check out the image below.
First appearing in Scream 4 back in 2011, Hayden Panettiere’s character Kirby Reed finds herself at the sharp end of Ghostface’s rampages as she becomes one of the several targets of the infamous killer. The best friend of franchise protagonist, Sidney (Neve Campbell)’s young cousin, Jill (Emma Roberts), Kirby Reed quickly became a fan-favorite, with fans wondering whether she would be brought back into the fray now that the franchise has been reignited.

Kirby Reed appears in an Easter egg during the events of the recent Scream AKA Scream 5, and Panettiere has since revealed that bringing Kirby back proper for Scream 6 was all her idea. “I called them up myself and was like, ‘So, you guys don’t happen to want to bring Kirby back, do you?’ I wanted to be in it that badly. I don’t think anyone’s going to be disappointed,” the actress said while appearing on Good Morning America.
Panettiere can be seen reading the 2015 fantasy novel A Court of Thorns and Roses in the image, which tells the story of a mortal named Feyre who kills a wolf in the woods. A beast-like creature demands punishment for it and she is taken into the faerie lands. Will this have any bearing on how Kirby will feature in Scream 6? Only time will tell.
Scream 6 Will Drop Ghostface in New York City
Dimension Films
While not much has yet been revealed regarding Scream 6, reports have stated that the slasher legacy sequel will shift the horror action from the Californian town of Woodsboro to New York City. Scream 6 is said to pick up following the events of this year’s Scream, as several new characters from the most recent installment attempt to put the horrors of Ghostface behind them. Reports have stated that Scream 6 “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” Unfortunately, they will fail in leaving the stabby shenanigans of Ghostface in Woodsboro.
Thus, Scream 6 will follow several characters introduced in 2022’s Scream, including Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter, Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, as they leave Woodsboro behind and head to the big apple. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (who are known collectively as Radio Silence), written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, Scream 6 will star Mason Gooding, Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, and Dermot Mulroney. Several more additions to the ensemble cast have recently been made, including Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, and Josh Segarra.
Scream 6 is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023.
