A long-running and persistent rumor has once again appeared, like an enemy you thought was vanquished but which instead keeps returning. Once again, rumors are circulating that a solo Scarlet Witch movie is set to be announced, this time at D23.

The D23 Expo, the annual Disney-run and Disney-exclusive convention, will take place from September 9, 2022, through September 11, 2022, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Southern California. Billed as “The Ultimate Disney Fan Event,” the D23 Expo 2022 will be presented by Visa. Tickets are only available to purchase D23 Members, but becoming a General Member is complimentary, as opposed to an upgrade to the additional benefits associated with a Gold Membership. However, all tickets to the 2022 event have been sold out.

Typically, the D23 event is accompanied by multiple announcements about the various Disney-owned properties. Naturally, this includes the movies and streaming shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe produced by the Disney-owned Marvel Studios. However, after so many of the expected announcements regarding the MCU took place in Hall H on Saturday at San Diego Comic Con 2022, speculation has run rampant regarding what might be revealed at D23 2022.

It’s no surprise that these rumors quickly ran to Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), perhaps better known by her Darkhold-predicted moniker, the Scarlet Witch. Even before she played an essential role in the recent movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Twitter was aflutter with rumors of a Wanda solo movie, or even a Wanda solo trilogy.

In Multiverse of Madness, Wanda spent much of the duration of the movie playing an antagonistic role to the eponymous Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Corrupted by the corrosive dark magic of the Darkhold, which she had obtained over the course of the Disney+ streaming series WandaVision, the movie saw the Scarlet Witch attempting to utilize the abilities of America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) in order to access a dimension in which her children Billy (Jullian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne) existed.

However, at the conclusion of the movie, America was able to instill Wanda with the perspective to realize what she had become in pursuit of her goal. This caused the Scarlet Witch to pull a magic castle down on top of herself. While this might be a sure sign of fatality in some stories, in the Marvel universe, t’s just another Wednesday, and the character most likely survived.

Will her next appearance be in her own solo movie?
