The poster for Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, a sequel to the 2019 horror comedy co-created by Aaron B. Koontz and Cameron Burns, has been revealed. The original was all about subverting and embracing the horror tropes that fans know and love. So much so that the original title of the film was Tropes. They changed it because they wanted the title to be a trope—a pun in the vein of Chopping Mall and Christmas Evil. Koontz said:
According to Fangoria, Scare Package II will do to the ’90s and early 2000 horror resurgence what Scare Package did to ’80s horror. More specifically, “the bigger, often more absurd sequels and their weird need to re-imagine, re-frame, or even completely re-do the events that came before them.” So naturally, the poster for the film had to be in the vein of that as well.
“But then the poster itself had to do the same, in one image. So when I first met with our artist Marc Schoenbach of Sadist Designs, we asked for something that felt reminiscent but also commented on those designs at the same time. Our poster within a poster, inside an ’80s VHS HOUSE style aesthetic, nailed this. But he nailed it so damn well, that the bar was set, and now we had a challenge to meet that again."

“When I came back to Marc to discuss Scare Package II, I had a few directives: it had to build off the first one but now within a ’90s and early 2000s vibe, while again being fun and light-hearted. It’s important to me that the vibe of these films also come out here. Because in many ways, Scare Package is a comedy first, even if that comedy must come from horror films.”

Like its predecessor, Scare Package II will be an anthology film. While the original had seven segments, the sequel will only have five. Two less than the first film, just like Creepshow 2. Schoenbach’s design showed the names of each segment as VHS titles on the poster for the first film, which he carried over for the sequel.
Returning from the first film is director Anthony Cousins, who’ll be making a sequel to his segment “The Night He Came Back Again! Part IV: The Final Kill.” He’ll be joined by Alexandra Barreto, Jed Sheperd, and Rachele Wiggins. “Torture Porn, J-Horror, Final Girls, and whatever that trope is with kids getting into way-over-their-heads mischief that no adults are ever aware of” will be some of the tropes tackled within the sequel.
“We had a few designs and ideas, but then I gave him the note of the hand now being a peace sign, and also a two for our sequel, coming out of a tube tv (which is featured prominently in the film), and then he had it. We threw in a ton of fun easter eggs, updated the color palette, and now we have something that I think compliments the first design while also showing something truly new and unique, with some hidden jokes within. And after you watch the film, you’ll see what I mean!”
