It’s going to be a two-season run for Saved by the Bell on Peacock. The reboot series, which debuted on Peacock in 2020 with season 2 hitting the streaming service on Thanksgiving 2021, won’t be moving forward with season 3. Per THR, the show has been officially canceled with no plans to develop any new episodes. You can read an official statement from Peacock below.

Wigfield executive produced the series alongside Franco Bario and Peter Engel. Original cast members Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Mario Lopez served as main cast members on the new series, reprising their classic roles. The sequel series primarily followed a new cast consisting of Haskiri Velazquez, Mitchell Hoog, Josie Totah, Alycia Pascual-Pena, Belmont Cameli, Dexter Darden, and John Michael Higgins.

While some things were different in the reboot, other things were exactly the same. The revival took place at Bayside High School, revealing that Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) had since become the governor of California. It picks up with Governor Morris closing underfunded schools with affected students transferring to wealthier schools, such as Bayside High.

Saved by the Bell’s Reboot Brought Back Most Original Stars

Almost all of the original Saved by the Bell cast members reunited on the new show. Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Mario Lopez were main cast members, returning as Jessie Spano and A.C. Slater. The show also featured appearances from Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Zack Morris, Tiffani Thiessen as Kelly Morris, Lark Voorhies as Lisa Turtle, and Ed Alonzo as Max, the owner of The Max.

Someone who was noticeably absent was Dustin Diamond, the actor who played Screech in the original Saved by the Bell and its spinoffs. Diamond had publicly campaigned for Screech to return in the series, but he was not invited back for season 1. There had been some talk of bringing back the character for season 2, but Diamond passed away before production began. It was also explained in the series that Screech had died off-screen as the other characters came together at The Max to mourn their fallen friend.

Two seasons is not a lengthy run, but it did fare better than the first Saved by the Bell spinoff. After the original series aired for four seasons, it was followed up with Saved by the Bell: The College Years, which aired for a single season before it was canceled in 1994. The separate spinoff Saved by the Bell: The New Class went much further, lasting for seven seasons before concluding its run in 2000.

You can find the two seasons of the Saved by the Bell reboot streaming on Peacock.
