A suspected “Chinese spy balloon” is shot down in the cold open sketch for Saturday night’s new episode of SNL, and as the balloon himself makes it clear in an MSNBC interview, he’s clearly not too happy about it. The sketch begins with media coverage of the U.S. military shooting down a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon over the Atlantic Ocean. Now floating in the sea, the balloon (Bowen Yang) participates in an interview about the situation. You can see it all unfold in the video below, via SNL on YouTube.

“Well, you got me,” Yang says, bemused. “Congrats, you shot a balloon.”

He then laments, “I entertain you people for four days, and then get shot by Biden? I can’t believe I’m Joe’s Osama.”

As the balloon, Yang makes the case that he’s not floating around the United States to spy on anyone, offering alternative explanations. When quizzed why he was seen above Montana, the balloon says that he just “love(s) the show Yellowstone.” He also blasts interviewer Katy Tur (Chloe Fineman) for describing his width as the size of three buses.

“Ouch, I’m a balloon, so that’s my body,” he says. “How would you like it if someone measured your width in buses? I’m sorry I’m not camera ready!”

Also featured in the sketch is Kenan Thompson as a U.S. pentagon official, offering some explanation about the country’s reaction to the spy balloon story. This includes holding up a small birthday balloon to serve as a “3D rendering of the target,” asking for viewer to imagine it as a lot bigger, but “from pretty far away, it looks a lot smaller too.”

Thompson added, “I want everyone to know that we will not tolerate any form of chinese spying. To be honest, they already have everything they need from TikTok, so, scroll away, kids!”
