It must have been a bit embarrassing for Kanye West when the “Gold Digger” rapper was escorted out of Skechers HQ last week, and to make matters worse, the situation was lampooned on Saturday Night Live. As has been reported, West showed up unannounced hoping to line up a partnership with the shoe company after having a falling out with ADIDAS amid a flurry of controversial remarks and allegations of antisemitism. Skechers execs had security escort West out of the building with no meeting and released a statement touting that they refuse to work with the mogul.

A new SNL skit imagines a Skechers commercial making the best of the bizarre situation. It features the SNL cast members playing different employees from the company explaining what happened with Kanye. They essentially brag about how wonderful they must be if they’re the ones Kanye chose to come see after his ADIDAS split.

“Like the rest of the country, we were appalled by Kanye’s horrific comments, and we vowed to never work with him in any capacity,” Cecily Strong says in character as a Skechers rep. “But, can we also point out that of all the companies he could have approached and been rejected by, he chose Skechers!”

Chloe Fineman, playing a Senior Sales VP, added: “Kanye came to Skechers, and Skechers said no. Do you realize how insanely satisfying that is?”

Bowen Yang played another Skechers employee stressing how strange it is for the company to reject West. Even just two years ago, when there was still baggage attached to the controversial rapper but not quite to the same extent, that would have never happened, Yang argues.

“Two years ago, could you have imagined the headline, ‘Skechers Too Good for Kanye’?” he says, bewildered.

The different employees spend the rest of the ad bragging about turning away Kanye, but not before envisioning what a shoe that he’d developed for the company would be like, only to lament how they now can’t do the partnership. The promo ends with an appearance from MyPillow founder Mike Lindell (James Austin Johnson) announcing a new partnership with Ye, as there won’t be many other company heads looking to get involved with the increasing controversy West has been generating.

Kanye West Turned Heads When He Was on SNL

Ye has appeared on SNL on many occasions previously, though he managed to spark some backlash when he appeared in 2018. In front of the show’s primarily left-leaning audience, West delivered a pro-Donald Trump rant on the air while wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap. It was reported that he’d made some of the cast members uncomfortable along with drawing some criticism on social media. He has not appeared as a musical guest since.

After Ye’s estranged wife Kim Kardashian guest hosted the show, she began a relationship with longtime cast member Pete Davidson. That also led to a feud between Ye and Davidson. While Davidson has left SNL ahead of the current season, chances are West won’t be coming back on the show anytime soon.
