Perhaps Samuel L. Jackson could be the next legacy star from the original Jurassic Park to return in a new Jurassic World movie. In the franchise’s first film, released in theaters in 1993, Jackson played the part of Ray Arnold, the chief engineer working on the island. The character is especially known for uttering the often-quoted phrase, “Hold on to your butts.”

Unfortunately, things don’t turn out very well for Ray. 29-year-old SPOILER ALERT: Ray is seemingly killed off-screen by a velociraptor. His death is alluded to when Ellie (Laura Dern) discovers his severed arm in a maintenance shed. There has been no indication whatsoever that Ray may have somehow survived that incident, but that hasn’t stopped Jackson from believing it anyway.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ray Arnold came up while Jackson was a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The actor was first asked about the possibility of Mace Windu, another character seemingly killed off in a previous film, returning to the Star Wars universe. Jackson said that he not only thinks Mace could return, he believes Ray managed to survive that raptor attack as well and has successfully adapted to a new life as master of the dinosaurs, still out there somewhere on that island.

Jurassic World Dominion will bring back multiple stars from Jurassic Park, such as Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. The franchise will inevitably get another movie, and while it might be hard to top the return of that beloved trio, seeing a one-armed Samuel L. Jackson riding into the scene on the back of a raptor just might do it.

“It’s the same way I think about the dude from Jurassic Park. He’s somewhere riding around on velociraptors with one arm. He’s just on that island riding raptors.”

Samuel L. Jackson Also Says Mace Windu Is Alive

It’s fun to believe Ray Arnold is living amongst the dinosaurs, but unfortunately, it seems very unlikely that the character will return in a Jurassic World movie. Samuel L. Jackson does not want fans to lose all hope for Mace Windu returning to Star Wars, however. Jackson has been consistent over the years with teasing the character’s comeback in a new Star Wars project, and says he’s been actively campaigning to return in a Star Wars series on Disney+.

“Definitely [hold out hope for Windu’s return],” Jackson said on the podcast. “There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning in Star Wars… The only person I’ve ever said that to, about coming back, was Bryce Dallas Howard, ‘cause I just did a movie with her and she directs episodes of The Mandalorian. So, ‘You think you might be able to hook a brother up? You like me, right?’ And she’s like, ‘I love you! You’re amazing!’ So, ‘Put me back in there. Put me in, coach, I’m ready!’ I’ll learn to lightsaber left-handed, come on, hook me up.”

It remains to be seen if a Mace Windu appearance happens in the future, but given Jackson’s commitment to making it a reality, coupled with Disney+ bringing back other Star Wars characters from the past in new shows, it could very well happen someday.
