A second poster offers a closer look at the Samaritan superhero suit. Something which Stallone’s character has left to gather dust in the closet after walking away from his great power and great responsibility.

Directed by Overlord’s Julius Avery and produced by Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood from a screenplay by Bragi F. Schut, Samaritan follows a young boy who goes in search of a mythic superhero who was thought to have died following an epic battle with his archenemy years ago. The boy, played by Euphoria and The Umbrella Academy star Javon Walton, discovers that the hero has been living under the radar as a garbage man and attempts to persuade him to return to the fray and save the world.

Filming on Samaritan wrapped back in November 2020, and is based on an original idea and script from Escape Room writer Bragi F. Schut with the project being called “a dark, new take on superhero movies.”

Samaritan stars Sylvester Stallone as Joe Smith AKA Samaritan and Javon Walton as Sam Cleary alongside Martin Starr, Moisés Arias, Dascha Polanco, Natacha Karam, Pilou Asbæk, Jared Odrick, Michael Aaron Milligan, and Deacon Randle.

Sylvester Stallone Will Play a Superhero for the First Time in Samaritan

Footage from Samaritan has been a lucky few thanks to the 2021 CinemaCon event. This being a Sylvester Stallone-led superhero outing, it should come as little surprise to learn that the movie will be R-rated, with reactions and reports at the time describing the teaser as “definitely” looking “R-rated, with the teaser trailer ending with him killing a bad guy in a pretty brutal way.” While details of the brutal method in which Samaritan dispatches bad guys are being kept under wraps, one can only imagine what the star of Rambo will get up to when imbued with super powers.
