When you think of nature documentaries, you might think of colorful sea creatures, majestic birds, and powerful predators, but an upcoming docuseries from National Geographic will give audiences a look at the uglier but no less interesting side of nature. Named Underdogs, it will be narrated by none other than Ryan Reynolds, according to a report from Collider. Reynolds says the series will “do justice” to creatures that are rarely documented:

Executive producer Dan Rees also promises the docuseries will be accurate in addition to providing laughs:

“I love nature series and I love making things my kids can actually watch. We’re already having a lot of fun trying to bring a new voice to animal docs. Wildstar has the expertise, experience and cutting-edge film tech to help us chew up that healthy National Geographic budget. We’ll deliver a show that is entertaining, surprising and will do justice to animals usually stuck as supporting cast.”

“‘Underdogs’ explores the animal world with a fresh, fun and highly entertaining perspective. Partnering so closely with Ryan and Maximum Effort has allowed us to bake in their inimitable humor every step of the way - from conception to delivery of this unique series. As a result, ‘Underdogs’ will make you snort with laughter and possibly even spill your coffee on your lap, but ultimately it puts a new spotlight on some of the weirder and less explored denizens of our planet, and all underpinned by sound science and research.”

Underdogs Won’t be Ryan Reynold’s First Documentary about an Underdog

     FX/Hulu

Ryan Reynolds previously worked on the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham alongside Rob McElhenny. The series follows a Welsh football/soccer team in another classic underdog story. The first season was released on FX last year, and the second season will come out later this year. If you want to see Reynolds in another documentary, you’ll have to wait a while, though. Underdogs won’t be released until 2025, and Reynolds himself points out that the Empire State Building took less time to make than this docuseries.

You can check out the teaser posted on Instagram below, where Reynolds asks the viewer not to think about a fish swimming up a hippo’s butt. Spoiler alert: it will probably make you think of that.
