Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell are known for their excellent comedic timing and long history of making audiences laugh in Hollywood. Now, the actors are teaming up for the upcoming holiday musical Spirited for AppleTV+. The film is a retelling of the classic Christmas story, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens. The film will follow the plot of a miserly man taken on a magical journey by three spirits; however, this time, the viewers will see the tale from the perspective of the ghosts.

Ryan Reynolds recently spoke with Collider, discussing Spirited and why he feels the musical elements will be a “one-time-deal” for the 46-year-old actor.

Reynolds may feel like Spirited is a considerable risk, although a Christmas movie following Ferrell and Reynolds will almost surely be a hit. In addition, the actor has another film in the works that is undoubtedly a box-office smash, with Deadpool 3 currently in development with co-star Hugh Jackman.

“I would say this is a one-time-only deal, but it was a thrill, you know? I think as I’m getting older, I like taking big swings at things. I mean, I have a real commitment, despite the fact that I’m in the middle of getting ready to do another Deadpool movie, I think that both myself and Maximum Effort have a real commitment to taking big swings at original ideas and concepts, and not the least of which being Free Guy and Adam Project, and several others. This was no different. I love that I got to be on a dance floor like this, forgive the pun. But it was pretty amazing. I spent my whole, genuinely my entire adult life, wanting to work with Will Ferrell. I didn’t even want to work with Will Ferrell, just hang out with Will Ferrell.”

Ryan Reynolds Took a Big Swing With Welcome to Wrexham

     FX/Hulu

Earlier this year, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) premiered their documentary series Welcome to Wrexham. The show featured the purchase and stewardship of Wrexham AFC, one of professional football’s oldest clubs, by Reynolds and McElhenney.

The series follows the duo as they learn what it takes to own a soccer team, bringing the group to prominence throughout two seasons. The series was a hit with critics and audiences, and Reynolds has previously confirmed their intent to create a second season based on the football club.

Fans can see the first season of Welcome to Wrexham streaming on Hulu. In addition, audiences will be treated to a musical performance from Reynolds and Will Ferrell when Spirited arrives on AppleTV+ on Friday, Nov. 11.
