Ryan Reynolds is currently enjoying his sabbatical from movies, having worked tirelessly to deliver one blockbuster hit after another for the past decade. Reynolds’ latest film, Red Notice, recently became Netflix’s most-watched movie ever, surpassing the likes of Bird Box and Extraction. Enjoying his short break from films, Ryan Reynolds joined the Dear Hank & John podcast with brothers John Green (The Fault in our Stars) and vlogger Hank Green.

While it’s no secret that Ryan Reynolds is often confused with fellow Canadian heartthrob Ryan Gosling, there is another renowned celebrity that Reynolds gets mixed up with. When asked on the podcast if he gets misidentified for someone else, Reynolds narrated an amusing story about how he is always mistaken for Ben Affleck at a New York pizza place that he frequents. But the Deadpool star has never bothered to correct them. “There’s a pizza place in the East Village in New York that I’ve been going to for years. They believe I’m Ben Affleck, and I’ve never corrected them.”

Reynolds agreed with the hosts that the time to reveal the secret is long gone, and so he just plays along now. “I feel it would not go over well if I revealed.” Ryan Reynolds further clarified that he isn’t benefited by the misunderstanding.

“Yeah, I gotta be more chipper. I gotta take care of Ben,” Reynolds added when prompted about maintaining Affleck’s reputation. It’s baffling how anyone could confuse him with Ben Affleck. It’s understandable with Ryan Gosling, though. Both are Canadian, both are of similar age, and both have somewhat similar appearances. Reynolds also touched on that subject, answering a fan question. He brought up an old tweet of his, where he cheekily explained the difference between himself and the La La Land star.

And I also don’t’ accept anything, like they’re not giving me free pizza based on this. I do everything normal like everybody else. They just think I’m Ben Affleck and they’ll ask how J.Lo is and I’m like, ‘great, good.’ I get the pizza and off I go. What I think makes it so believable with them is that I look so mildly sort of put out by a celebrity getting asked again about my life and the movies, and I sort of look like I … when I leave, I think they sort of think, ‘I don’t think Ben Affleck’s amused by us.’

Well, it’s good to see Reynolds enjoying his acting hiatus. Hopefully, it won’t be very long. Deadpool 3 is in active development at Disney and will likely be the first project Reynolds undertakes upon his return. He will next be seen alongside Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer in Spirited. Directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, Spirited is a Christmas-themed musical that arrives on Apple TV+ in 2022.

Years ago, I used to play fast and loose on Twitter. These days I’m a little more reserved. But I remember a question like this came up. It said: I can’t tell the difference between Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling. And I answered the question. I said –and I would never do this today–but I answered and I said, ’Well the difference is easy to spot. Ryan Gosling has blonde hair. And Ryan Reynolds is a c***.’
