Ryan Reynolds may be on a sabbatical at the moment, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been frequently continuing to drop in on his social media accounts. Yesterday the actor posted on his Instagram account in celebration of Deadpool’s 6th anniversary. While fans wait of the R-rated film franchise’s return sometime in the future, Reynolds shared a series of images from the original Deadpool movie, including behind the scenes and on set shots.

When it comes to R-rated comic book movies, Deadpool still stands as one of the biggest box office successes in cinema history. The original movie, after taking a long while to actually make it to the big screen, pulled in over $784 million globally, and the sequel performed similarly to give the franchise a total gross of over $1.5 billion. When the merger of Disney and Fox completed, many fans became worried about the future of Deadpool. A third movie had been discussed prior to the merger, but Disney’s family-friendly stance on the MCU led to the suggestion that Deadpool could find his R-rating watered down to a lowly PG-13.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
However, as time moved on it became apparent that Deadpool would be returning in all his R-rated glory, and Reynolds is currently working on the script with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. Although fans have no idea how interconnected Deadpool will be to the MCU, or when we can expect the movie to arrive in cinemas, there is someone who knows all of this information and that is Kevin Feige. Previously, the Marvel Studios boss was asked about whether he had a release window in mind and he said, “We do. And the script is in the works and Ryan is working very hard on it with our writers as we speak.”
Deadpool 3 Could Become The Biggest R-Rated Superhero Movie Ever
There is little doubt that with the ever-growing popularity of Ryan Reynolds, the pull of the MCU and a whole lot of love out there for the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool 3 will be the most successful movie of the franchise. The real question is can it topple Joker’s crown as the highest grossing R-rate movie of all time. Currently, Deadpool holds the second and third places on that particular chart, and Marvel Studios would obviously love to snatch back the top spot from DC.
“It’s something that is just a daily process,” Reynolds previously said to Collider about working on the Deadpool 3 script. “Writing is kind of like that, you’ve gotta allot time to do it and walk away, and I’m working with the Molyneuxs on it, it’s been great. They’re incredibly talented and so, so smart. They so understand that world and know how to zig when everyone’s expecting a zag, so it’s been a lot of fun.”
If Deadpool 3 does have a release window in mind, then it will likely be sometime in 2024, which would put it just beyond the current list of known MCU releases. As Deadpool will be the first R-rated entry in the franchise, it will be interesting to see how the fourth wall-breaking character fits into the overall Marvel narrative.
