Despite another bout of recent rumors, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame directors The Russo Brothers are not currently in talks with Marvel Studios to direct a Secret Wars movie. While there have been many rumors about such a thing happening since the Russos once said that they would work with Marvel again on an adaptation of Secret Wars if it were ever to happen, the recent announcement by Kevin Feige that he would soon be revealing some of the roadmap of where the Marvel Cinematic Universe if heading those rumors have returned with a vengeance.
Speaking to Josh Horowitz, the Russos once again dispelled the suggestion that they have been talks with Marvel about returning. Also, they shut down a recent rumor that their appointment as Secret Wars directors was about to be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Joe Russo told Horowitz:

Secret Wars Seems Like The Inevitable Conclusion of MCU’s Multiverse Saga

So far, Kevin Feige has remained silent on exactly what the next few phases of the MCU are leading to, but many fans have already decided that the culmination will be an adaptation of Secret Wars. While the original 1984 Secret Wars comic arc was one version of the story, in 2015, Jonathan Hickman wrote another Secret Wars, which spanned the multiverse and saw multiple worlds collide. There have already been many aspects of this arc included in phase four of the MCU, which has made it evident to some that this is where everything we are currently seeing will end.
“It’s so funny because, to be clear, there are no conversations. No. We’re not [appearing at SDCC].We haven’t had conversations with those guys about anything that they’re up to because we’ve been intensely busy with our own schedule. We just always answer truthfully when we’re asked, ‘Would you work with them?’ ‘Of course we would, we adore them.’ ‘What would you like to do?’ ‘Secret Wars, it was our favorite series growing up.’ And then I think it always gets turned into a bigger story. But to be clear: there is no story.”
So far, the multiverse has been an important aspect of several Marvel releases including the TV series Loki and feature films Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Although there have been plenty of other movies that haven’t touched on the existence of multiple realities at all, we know that Marvel never rushes these things, and it looks like it will be several years before we see it all come together in the same way Endgame did.
However, there are plenty of fans who have been disappointed with the current phase, mainly thanks to their expectations being much more elaborate than was ever possible, but perhaps an announcement soon from Kevin Feige as to when they can expect to see the big events happening will soften the tough opinions about the current run of movies.
