Run (2020) is a thrilling masterpiece of cinematic horror that follows Chloe Sherman (Kiera Allen), a young girl who deals with multiple disabilities while under the controlling presence of her mother, Diane Sherman (Sarah Paulson). This would be one of the most stellar performances of Sarah Paulson’s career, adding to her long resume of projects including American Horror Story. As the film continues, Chloe would discover her mother has been hiding a dark secret, and the two begin a dance of deception.

Here we will go over the best scenes to be featured throughout the film. We will be covering scenes of subtlety as well as scenes that feature graphic violence and disturbing imagery. With the excellently paced intensity throughout the film, every scene was worth hanging onto, but these stood out among the rest.

After connecting with a stranger and convincing the gentleman to help her by looking up the name of the medication her mother described to her, she learns that the color of the medication is different. While racing against time, Chloe asks the man to look up the pills by appearance, and he gives her the proper name for the medication. Diane is making her way up the stairs only for Chloe to narrowly escape being noticed.

5 The Breakfast

After Chloe attempts to look up the medication herself, only to face a roadblock in the internet going down, thanks to Diane’s unnoticed interference, the two would begin a tense conversation over breakfast that would prove to be quite impactful and a fine example of the deteriorating relationship between the mother and daughter.

As the two would discuss the internet, Diane would show just how skilled she was in deception, catching Chloe in her deceptions, though she couldn’t call her out on it without giving her own actions away. As the two who had shown a strong bond in the film’s opening hold this terse dialogue, it would be the perfect prelude to the insanity that would follow.

4 Revenge

The ending of the film would prove a pivotal moment and give a strong turning of the tables as Chloe would own the moment and take the opportunity to prove that she was the one in power after the events of the film.

Entering a prison under her own power, albeit with the aid of crutches, Chloe walks in to visit Diane and speaks of how her life has changed since escaping Diane’s grasp. Becoming reacquainted with her biological family and going to college as she always wanted, Chloe proves to Diane that she never needed her to be happy. She would then show that Diane may have taught her something after all when it’s revealed that she had snuck drugs into the prison, so she could dose Diane and force her to remain catatonic.

3 The Pharmacy

Another scene of cat and mouse gets taken to the extreme when Chloe convinces Diane to take her to the movie theatre as a bonding experience, only to leave and go to the pharmacy across the street, so she can find out what the medication Diane had been dosing her with actually does.

As Diane begins looking for Chloe, the pharmacist (under the pretense that Chloe was playing a game of scavenger hunt with her mother) informs her that the medication is intended for a dog and that if a human being were to consume it, they could end up paralyzed, similar to Chloe’s condition. This revelation leads to Chloe suffering a panic attack and hyperventilating just as Diane arrives and whisks her away before anyone can ask any more questions.

2 The Escape

After the incident at the pharmacy, Diane has taken steps to ensure Chloe won’t leave the house or call for help while she goes to get supplies. This scene would work as a great point to show off how determined and clever Chloe is as she knows not to eat the food that was left for her, knowing it was likely dosed with medication and managing to get around the house without the use of her wheelchair. In order to get to her wheelchair, she would drag herself across the awning of her home, arrive at an adjacent window, and use tools she had on hand to help break the lock on the window. After securing her wheelchair and flinging herself down the stairs, Chloe would finally exit her home, hoping to find safety at last.

1 Discovering The Truth

After being forced back home, Chloe would attempt to lock herself in the basement, looking for some way to separate herself from Diane. Here, Chloe would discover that Diane had kept college acceptance letters hidden from her so that she would believe that she hadn’t made it into college and would stay home with Diane forever. Chloe would also find newspaper clippings revealing that Diane had actually lost her child in labor and that another child had been kidnapped from another family. Finding pictures that were attached, Chloe would realize that they were pictures of her as a child with the full ability to walk, even though Diane had convinced her that she hadn’t been able to walk for far longer.
