Thirteen Lives Brings the Heroic Rescue Mission to Life

     Vox

Thirteen Lives is based on the rescue mission of twelve teenagers and their assistant coach, who were trapped in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Thailand. The team had entered the cave for a football practice session and was trapped after a heavy rainfall blocked their way out. After eighteen days, the stranded members were rescued by a group of divers in a challenging extraction mission.

While a group of British and Thai divers attempted the dangerous mission, they also received immense help and technical advice from across the globe via both public and private sector units and organizations. This led to worldwide attention towards the incident over those three weeks.

Ron Howard’s Thirteen Lives is set to star Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, Joel Edgerton, and Sukollawat Kanarot. William Nicholson, famous for penning Howard’s Academy Award-winning film Gladiator (2000), has written the film. Before Thirteen Lives, a Thai movie, The Cave, also covered the incident and the subsequent rescue efforts.
