Two weeks ago, the TV adaptation of Willow came to an end. After eight episodes, the epic fantasy series that worked as a continuation of the 1988 movie classic ended its first season with hopes of a second coming soon. And although there hasn’t been any official announcement, the team behind the show is already thinking about what’s to come.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the director of the original film and producer of the series, Ron Howard, talked about the possibility of a continuation of the story:

Jonathan Kasdan, who serves as a writer on the show, also spoke about a possible second season, confessing to Comic Book Movie that he begged Lucasfilm for a renewal:

“Well, there’s always been a hope and a plan for more seasons. There’s certainly more story to tell, but there’s nothing concrete that I can comment on right now. From a creative standpoint, everybody is energized. Everybody loved working on Willow. It felt like it found its voice and its footing, so we’re just standing by”.

“I hope so. We’re certainly working at it and I’m begging Kathy Kennedy because working with these actors and this crew of filmmakers on this show has been the best experience. We still feel like there are a lot of stories and bigger places to visit”.

What’s Willow About?

     Disney+

In the original film, Willow embarked on a quest to deliver a young child he found near his village and protect her from an evil sorceress who wished her harm. Willow found himself in completely foreign territory, having rarely ever left his small hometown. His journey is littered with vile monsters and wretched servants of the evil Empress Bavmorda, but Willow also meets a troupe of lifelong friends who assist him in the journey, such as the arrogant yet lovable swordsman Madmartigan. Difficult as these trials may have been, Willow ultimately prevailed in his quest and protected the young child before returning to his home with a new love and appreciation for studying magic.

Now, 17 years later, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mythical creatures flourish, the adventure continues as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.
