We’ll still have to wait and see what happens with Willow, the Disney+ series that serves as a continuation of the original movie, but for Ron Howard, the clear hope is that season 2 will soon be announced. After directing the original Willow movie released in 1988, Howard came back on board for the follow-up series to serve as an executive producer. The show premiered in November and wrapped up its first season earlier this month.

As of now, the Willow series is on the bubble, and Disney+ has yet to either renew or cancel the TV show. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Howard was asked about the current status of Willow season 2, and he can’t yet confirm the fate of the series. He makes it clear that the hope from everyone involved is to continue, but the ball is in Disney’s court with everyone else on standby waiting for that renewal order to come in.

Ron Howard Might Direct if Willow Is Renewed

Howard spoke a bit more about Willow in a separate interview with EW. He confirmed his interest in directing an episode of season 2 if the show does secure a renewal, after he was unable to do that for season 1. The director also noted his intentions to be as involved with the show as possible moving forward, feeling very happy with how season 1 played out.

The odds seem to be in the favor of Willow getting renewed, as it had reportedly garnered high viewership on Disney+ after its arrival. The reviews have been on the positive side as well, scoring an 86% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes on the Tomatometer. Even so, nothing is set in stone, so for the fans, let’s hope some good news is soon to come in to end the worries about a cancelation.
