There aren’t many sequels Robert Pattinson would be eager to jump on board for, but he’d be up for starring in the Planet of the Apes franchise. Specifically, Pattinson is a pretty big fan of the last two installments of the movie series, both of which were helmed by The Batman director Matt Reeves. In a new interview with Variety, the actor expressed his love for the films and says he was so impressed with them that he really wanted to work with Reeves, perhaps in the next Apes movie.
After a slew of Planet of the Apes movies were released in the 60s and 70s, followed by a 2001 remake, the franchise was rebooted with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. After Rupert Wyatt directed that film, Matt Reeves stepped in to direct the 2014 sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, along with its 2017 sequel, War for the Planet of the Apes. Both films were widely acclaimed.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Sicaro was released in 2015 and follows an FBI agent (Emily Blunt) enlisted to bring down the leader of a powerful drug cartel (Julio Cesar Cedillo). Stefano Sollima directed the sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which dropped in 2018. A third movie is in development.
Villeneuve also directed last year’s Dune reboot, another film that attracted Pattinson’s attention. The filmmaker will return to the helm to direct the upcoming sequel Dune: Part Two, which is set for an October 2023 release. Given the ensemble cast featured in the first installment, getting Pattinson involved somehow is not outside the realm of possibility.
Another Planet of the Apes Film Is in the Works With Another Director
20th Century Studios
Just days ago, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell provided an update on the Planet of the Apes franchise. The apparent plan for Planet of the Apes 4 is for cameras to start rolling later this year, though Wes Bell will be directing rather than Matt Reeves. That’s not to say there isn’t still a place for Pattinson in the film, or even another movie later on down the line that would reunite Pattinson and Reeves.
Chances are that Pattinson and Reeves will be spending a lot of time together in the coming years anyway. The Batman has proven to be an incredible success with the second-highest opening weekend of any movie during the pandemic era, behind only Spider-Man: No Way Home. That pretty much means that The Batman 2, and perhaps even another film to make a trilogy, is inevitable.
The Batman is now playing in theaters everywhere.
