NEW SHOWS HIT HARD BY FOOTBALL The debut of a number of new series and new episodes of some old ones were hammered by NBC’s Sunday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. The game, and its lead-in, averaged an 8.9 rating and a 15 share for NBC or about 16.9 million viewers. As strong as that might appear, the Sunday Night Football telecasts are off from the 20....

Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as legendary boxing champion Rocky Balboa in the new film Rocky Baaboa it was announced today by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., Revolution Studios and Columbia Pictures, who will co-produce and co-finance the film. Columbia Pictures will also handle distribution for the film. Stallone, who received Academy Award nominations for starring in and writing “Rocky,” will serve as writer and director of the film. A Chartoff/Winkler production, the film is scheduled to begin shooting early in 2006....

10 years ago, a new DC universe was born with the introduction of Arrow to the CW Network. Network executives were elated with the reception the show received in its initial season, as it had managed to attract fans both familiar and unfamiliar with the source material. Here we will be looking at the best performers from throughout the Arrowverse, whether they came from the original show or from its many spinoffs....

It is hard to imagine a movie featuring Hollywood royalty such as Mark Hamill would fail to make it to general release. If you add in that the movie was produced by B-Movie legend Roger Corman, then it becomes even harder to believe, but it is true that in 2013 Corman produced Virtually Heroes, a movie that was an official Sundance selection but was never picked up for distribution, and originally went by the name of Virtual Warriors....

Roseanne Barr claims she’s going to move to Israel once ABC’s The Conners airs. Barr stated this, amongst many other things, during a recent interview on a new podcast with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. Barr has appeared on his podcast several times and, on her most recent appearance, she says once the Roseanne spin-off The Conners airs, which will proceed with the rest of the cast following her character’s death, it’s off to Israel to study....

Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell are known for their excellent comedic timing and long history of making audiences laugh in Hollywood. Now, the actors are teaming up for the upcoming holiday musical Spirited for AppleTV+. The film is a retelling of the classic Christmas story, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens. The film will follow the plot of a miserly man taken on a magical journey by three spirits; however, this time, the viewers will see the tale from the perspective of the ghosts....

Sam Huntington (Superman Returns) will star in ABC’s upcoming comedy series Cavemen, which is undergoing some retooling, says The Hollywood Reporter, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Huntington will play a new caveman character, Andy, who is the younger brother of Joel (Bill English). Andy, who lives in their small hometown, comes to Atlanta to visit his brother after breaking up with his girlfriend. Andy will replace Jamie, Joel’s easygoing little bother character played in the pilot by Dash Mihok....

In a story from The Los Angeles Times, it looks like Warner Bros. is going to reshoot some scenes from Louis Leterrier’s reboot of Clash of the Titans. According to Sam Worthington, the film’s star, “We’re going to be going back and shooting more scenes for it, they cut loose with some money so we can add to it.” He went on to say, “We’re going to be shooting more scenes in January, so we’re going to be right up against it – the movie comes out in March....

Samara Weaving is set to star in Sony Pictures Television’s upcoming limited series about former Playboy Playmate Holly Madison tentatively called Down the Rabbit Hole. The series is based on Madison’s 2015 memoir Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny. As of this writing, a network is not yet attached. Writer Marieke Hardy is adapting the memoir for TV. The untitled limited series looks beyond the polished facade of the Playboy brand to depict the visceral, often deeply damaging stories of the women who entered following a dream and found themselves manipulated, controlled, and abused by the machine....

While the debate of whether the role of James Bond should ever be taken over by a woman never seems to end, Skyfall and Spectre director Sam Mendes has put his own spin on the future of Bond by suggesting the next movie should be helmed by a female director. The James Bond franchise is about to celebrate its 60th anniversary, and while producer Barbara Broccoli has made it perfectly clear that James Bond will always remain James Bond, there is nothing to stop a female from taking over behind the camera....

DGA HEAD TAKES AIM AT SAG The Directors Guild of America, which has signed an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, has taken issue with the Screen Actors Guild, which has not, over the issue of union jurisdiction over programs produced for the Internet. SAG is insisting that all such shows be produced under the terms of the union contract; producers maintain that they must be allowed to experiment with low-cost productions but have agreed to union jurisdiction if just one union member is employed....

EMMY NOMINEES ANNOUNCEDThe Fox drama 24and the TNT miniseries Into the Westtook front and center today (Thursday) as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards. 24received half as many nominations, 12, the most for any regular series, while Into the Westreceived 16 nominations. 24was closely followed by the ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy,with 11 nominations. Besides Grey’sand 24, Fox’s House,HBO’s The Sopranos,and NBC’s final season of The West Wingwere also nominated in the drama series category....

SUCCESS IS REVENGE’S REVENGE AGAINST CRITICS Ticket sales for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallenon Sunday fell a whopping $3 million below Paramount’s estimate. Nevertheless, the studio claimed that the movie earned $200.1 million over its first five days, only about 1 million below the original estimate. BoxOfficeMojo.com said that Paramount explained the apparent discrepancy by noting that it had not received complete reports from some theaters for the movie’s midnight opening on Wednesday and from “institutional” IMAX locations in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean....

NBC CAN’T BRING HOME THE GOLDFinal primetime ratings for last week showed a 37-percent decline in the number of viewers for NBC’s coverage of the Turin Winter Olympics compared with the Salt Lake City Games four years ago. Among viewers 18-49, the demographic group most prized by advertisers, the drop was far greater – a whopping 45 percent. Ratings for the closing ceremonies on Sunday were particularly dismal, with only 14....

i>ENCHANTED LIVES UP TO ITS NAME Disney had some Enchantedweekend, with its latest hand-drawn animated/live romance drawing $50.05 million over the five days, $35.3 million over the weekend. “I think Disney has a major hit on their hands,’’ Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, told Bloomberg News. “I think word-of-mouth will be very good on this one.” Underscoring the appeal of family movies, the low-budget film This Christmas, starring a relatively unknown cast, placed second with $27....

FROM MYSPACE TO MOVIE SCREENS? In an apparent effort to steal some of the thunder from YouTube, News Corp-owned MySpace said Wednesday that it plans to begin offering exclusive high-quality short-form programming from top film and TV producers. Talent is being offered the chance to produce their material on their own terms, without interference from programming executives and advertisers. MySpace said that it had signed its first deal with Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, producers of the movies Blood Diamond and The Last Samuraiand the TV shows thirtysomething and My So-Called Life....
