The new actor also talked about the 10-year age difference between himself and the new Lois Lane, Amy Adams. “I’m just picking out as much as I possibly can from the comic book history because obviously it’s plastered across there as to who this man is and whatever part of his life you’re playing; whatever part of his ultimate journey you’re playing, you just need to put in either the building aspects, the building blocks to how he ends up, all those key characteristics that are carried through and so it’s just picking up a general idea of what he is and then working from there....

Acclaimed actor and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard is set to star in Lionsgate’s Tough Trade, the first original series pilot for EPIX, the new multi-platform entertainment service from Viacom Inc., its Paramount Pictures unit, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) and Lionsgate which launched October 30, 2009. With a creative team led by executive producer and showrunner Jenji Kohan (Weeds), the pilot was written by creator/co-executive producer Chris Offutt (True Blood, Weeds) and will be directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Rendition, Tsotsi)....

Completed just before the WGA strike began, IESB.net has gotten their hands on a review of the screenplay adaptation for Johnny Quest. Jonny Quest was a cartoon created by Hanna-Barbera in 1965, which showed the adventures of Dr. Quest, his friend, Race Bannon, his son, Johnny, and Johnny’s best friend, Hadji. It was revived in 1986, and then later received a new series and two films in the 1990’s. According to the review, the focus of the action is not on Johnny, but instead focuses on Race Bannon, who was known in the animated series for being a man of action....

Another name is returning to the eagerly awaited Sonic the Hedgehog sequel. Tom Holkenborg, otherwise known by his stage name as Junkie XL, is returning to score the sequel to the 2020 hit! He’s returning to his role in production along with director Jeff Fowler. Holkenborg has a history with both film and videogame soundtrack composing. In video games, he has written music for such games as Destroy All Humans!, The Sims 2: Nightlife, and Need for Speed: Underground....

Legendary actor Al Pacino has joked that Harrison Ford owes his career to him, and he’s not entirely wrong. A long time ago — and not in a galaxy far, far away, but in California around 1975 — The Godfather star was offered the role of Han Solo in Star Wars, but turned it down, admitting he didn’t understand the sci-fi epic that George Lucas was making at the time. CBS has given a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes of Under the Dome, a serialized drama from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name. The series will be broadcast in summer 2013. Under the Dome is the story of a small New England town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from and if and when it will go away....

CAN MILEY CRASH THE CARS? The debut of Hannah Montana: The Movieis expected to be no match for the second week of Fast and Furiousat the box office over the Easter holiday weekend. But box-office prognosticators are saying that there could be strong competition for the No. 2 spot between the G-rated Hannah and the R-rated Observe and Report, starring Seth Rogen. A dark horse also figures in the mix, Fox’s action-fantasy flick Dragonball: Evolution, based on a Japanese comic book, which was not shown to critics....

HONG KONG MOVIE PIRATE JAILED An appeals court in Hong Kong has upheld the conviction of a man who used the online handle “Big Crook” when he uploaded three movies onto the Internet via the BitTorrent program. Chan Nai-ming, 39, began serving a three-month prison sentence after the judge, Clare-Marie Beeson, rejected Chan’s plea that he simply be allowed to perform community service. In his appeal Chan had argued that the original judge did not take into consideration the fact that he did not profit from uploading the movies....

BLOCKBUSTER CHIEF BUSTED Bringing to an end Blockbuster chief John Antioco’s latest – and perhaps final – feud with billionaire corporate raider Carl Icahn, Antioco on Tuesday agreed to step down at the end of this year and take a cut in his bonus for 2006. Under a revised compensation deal, Antioco, who had argued that he was entitled to receive $7.7 million as a bonus for 2006, will receive $3....

MARKET PLUNGE HITS MEDIA With the credit crunch already affecting the output of many media companies, Monday’s stock-market plunge hit Hollywood particularly hard. General Electric, the corporate parent of Universal Pictures and NBC – as well as GE Capital –saw its shares plummet 8.04 percent. Other media companies, including CBS, Comcast Disney, News Corp, Sony, Time Warner, and Viacom, averaged declines of 2-4 percent. In early trading today (Tuesday), the market appeared to come out of its free-fall and level off....
