As a vehicle for emotion, few other mediums are as powerful as the moving image. We turn to great comedy movies to make us laugh, terrifying horror movies to make us scream, and yes, sad movies to make us cry. The movies on this list all fall into the latter category for different reasons, but definitely shouldn’t be movie night picks unless a person is ready to feel something. While one might not want to watch a sad movie every day, there’s nothing like the true catharsis of shedding a tear because of an on-screen tragedy, igniting every ounce of empathy in the body....

Sandra Bullock has made box office history as the first female to top-line a film crossing $200 million in U.S. box office receipts with her film The Blind Side. With competition from the likes of Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon and other notable female leads, this is no small feat, as films from those other leading ladies regularly deliver takes surpassing $100 million. Only Roberts really got close to the $200 million mark with Pretty Woman, which landed nearly $180 million....

Friday night was a doozy for Seeking Sister Wife stars Bernie and Paige McGee as they were arrested in Mississippi on felony stalking charges. They were released from custody, but at this time we don’t know if they had to bail out, or if they were arraigned, if there will be future court dates, nothing. The only info we have about the arrest is that they were taken into custody and transported to the local police station....

In a story from Variety, Fox 2000 has cast Disney Channel star Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) in Tom Bezucha’s young female comedy Monte Carlo. The studio is also said to be in talks with Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) about being in the film. Nicole Kidman is producing Monte Carlo with Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan. Kidman may also have a supporting role in the film. Bezucha (The Family Stone) is set to start shooting in May....

As most stories in Hollywood go, the palatable version is rarely the honest one. In the film 21, the predominantly Asian-American MIT students are replaced with white characters and actors, given that even though the truth wasn’t white, the audience would be. It may be a surprise that the first Hollywood heartthrob — prior to even Rudolph Valentino — was a man named Kintarō “Sessue” Hayakawa. But it shouldn’t be a surprise that, like the women screenwriters who made Silent Hollywood, Hayakawa’s legacy has been, quite literally, torn down in the century since....

Primer writer-director and star Shane Carruth is working on director Rian Johnson’s next film Looper, which is a time travel thriller starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Paul Dano, and Emily Blunt. Rian Johnson gave this Tweet today (via Badass News): Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades. The story revolves around a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future....

The post, which was shared by the official Disney UK Website , has now been removed, but once again reveals She-Hulk to be an out-and-out comedy. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is well-known (and sometimes criticized) for its comedic style, She-Hulk will evidently lean even further into these sensibilities as we are introduced to Jennifer Walters and follow her into court, where she attempts to defend superhumans such as The Abomination....

For some horror movies, there had been so much tragedy and misfortune plaguing the productions behind the scenes that, for all intents and purposes, the movies seemed cursed. These are the stories that will be explored in an all new series from Shudder, which will be simply titled as Cursed Films. With so many different movies having bizarre happenings going on behind the scenes, there will be plenty of material for the upcoming docu-series to examine....

The Bad Are studios so greedy that they had to release a barebones version of this DVD first? Sin City Special Edition - Recut and Extended is one of those movies that either works or doesn’t work for the viewer....

Sophie Turner will head right back to HBO for her next big role on the true crime series The Staircase. From 2011 to 2019, Turner famously played Sansa Stark on the hit fantasy series Game of Thrones with the role also marking her professional acting debut. A natural performer, Turner impressed fans and critics over the course of the series with Sansa’s character arc allowing for the actress to show her impressive range....

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star and Miles Morales himself, Shameik Moore, has seemingly seen the highly anticipated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) and could not help but take to social media to tease the madness of the multiverse. While his review is short and to the point, Moore’s description of the movie is sure to have fans excited to once again embark on a multiversal adventure with Miles....

Several new images of official merchandise for the upcoming animated outing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse seemingly reveal an appearance from another variant: the electric guitar-wielding Spider-Punk. Thanks to images shared by Twitter user @MCUMarvels, toys from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse offer our first look at Spider-Punk, with a mask sporting the character’s most triumphant horned mohawk while another reveals his musical instrument of choice. While we already know of several Spider-Man variants who will appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, this is the first inkling we’ve had that Spider-Punk will play a role in proceedings....

Now that the digital and home release of Marvel’s record-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home has been revealed, Sony Pictures Entertainment has released details of what content we can expect from the “over 80 minutes of new and behind the scenes content.” Amongst the material of extras usually included, the real excitement comes from the revelation that there will be “20 minutes” of footage with ‘Peter 2’ and ‘Peter 3’, played by prior Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield....

Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is in early negotiations to direct the big-screen adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., according to Heat Vision Blog. We last reported on the project back in April, when Warner Bros. hired Max Borenstein to write the adaptation of the TV series, which ran from 1964 to 1968. David Dobkin was originally attached to direct the movie, although now he is only producing. Scott Z. Burns is in talks to come aboard as the new screenwriter....

HAPPY HOLIDAY AT BOX OFFICE Businesses at the nation’s shopping malls were probably grateful for the crowds of potential customers that anchor-tenant multiplexes attracted over the Christmas holiday weekend. Attendance was reportedly up nearly 8 percent over the same weekend a year ago, as several of the top films exceeded analysts’ expectations – by a lot. “It’s a very strong finish to the year,” Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers, told the Associated Press....

The seven-day total represented a record for a nonsequel, surpassing the original Spider-Man, which earned $151.6 million in 2002. RELATIONS BETWEEN WRITERS AND STUDIOS WORSEN The president of the umbrella group representing movie and TV producers has denounced the decision by the Writers Guild of America to hold a strike-authorization vote. Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers President Nick Counter called the decision “reckless” and charged that negotiators for the guild “seem intent on striking without seriously addressing the AMPTP’s proposals and with no regard for the devastating impact on their members, fellow unions and this industry....
