She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is poking fun at the MCU in a way that has not been seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it seems that Marvel had a limit on one aspect of how far some of the jokes went. As we have already seen in Deadpool, breaking the fourth wall is a great way for on-screen characters to air their opinions and poke fun at a variety of subjects, and Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters is getting to do that in the MCU before the Merc With a Mouth gets his chance....

Paramount Pictures is pushing the release date of Martin Scorsese’s next film Shutter Island back to 2010. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, the Leonardo DiCaprio thriller was originally set for an October 2nd debut. Now, it won’t hit theaters until February of 2010, which makes it ineligible for this year’s coveted award race. An insider close to the scheduling change told Deadline Hollywood Daily, ““It tested in the high 80s/low 90s and Scorsese even brought it down to 2 hours....

A legend of the screen has left us as it’s been reported that Sidney Poitier has passed away. Per TMZ, Poitier’s death was announced by the Bahamian Minister of Foreign Affairs, but the circumstances of his passing, along with a cause of death, haven’t been revealed. The veteran actor, who became the first Black man to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his performance in 1963’s Lilies of the Field, was 94 years old....

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced the addition of a variety of entertainment offerings from Lucasfilm Ltd., Cinetic FilmBuff, ContentFilm International, Image Entertainment, Inc., MPI Media Group and New Video to the PlayStation Network video delivery service. The content, which will be made available on November 2, 2009 for purchase or rent, further enhances the video delivery service’s already robust library of downloadable entertainment content, including new and favorite movies, television shows, sports, anime, original entertainment, and more....

Kraven the Hunter is in the midst of production as filming is now underway on the upcoming feature. A part of Sony’s universe of Marvel movies, which includes the Venom films along with the upcoming Morbius, Kraven the Hunter features Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular Spider-Man foe. Though Kraven is typically depicted as a villain in Spider-Man comics, the film may present him as more of an anti-hero, similar to Venom and Morbius....

The creators of the hit Comedy Central show South Park have long been known for pushing the boundaries of what’s acceptable to say and show on television with the raunchy animated series. Even in the midst of what’s referred to as “cancel culture,” Parker and Stone have maintained their approach to essentially doing whatever they want with the series regardless of any potential backlash it might bring....

A new rumor claims that Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland will once again tackle the multiverse in the upcoming animated outing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Coming courtesy of The Cosmic Circus, sources have revealed that Holland’s webslinger will feature in the sequel in some way, with the smart money betting on it being a simple cameo as Miles Morales throws himself, well, across the spider-verse. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse writer and producer Phil Lord has teased an appearance not only from Tom Holland but also from the likes of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as well....

The epic adventure of the Star Wars galaxy comes to the iTunes Music Store (www.itunes.com) today when Cartoon Network’s Emmy Award-winning animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars becomes available for purchase and download, Lucasfilm Ltd. has announced. Beginning today, the 20 chapters of Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume 1 will be available on iTunes, with the action-packed Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume 2 following later in June. Each chapter, or episode, will be available for $1....

The Antilles Extraction is the origin story of a beloved character. Hint, he survived two runs at the Death Star, the first one just barely. It’s also a lightsaber free episode. Star Wars Rebels has been force-centric in its storyline lately. I love the Jedi vs. the Dark Side duels as much as anyone else, but it’s good to have an episode with other characters as the focus. OSCAR WINNERS: THE RUNDOWN Joel and Ethan Coen’s No Country for Old Menmade a stronger-than-expected showing at Sunday night’s Academy Awards presentation. Although it was favored to win the best picture Oscar, it was not expected to take three major awards – for best director (the Coens), best adapted screenplay (also the Coens), and best supporting actor (Javier Bardem). In another surprise, the best actress went to French actress Marion Cotillard for her portrayal of legendary singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose....

AD BUYERS JUMPING THROUGH HOOPS FOR CBS OVER WEBCASTSOne of the primary advertisers on CBS’s webcasts of the March Madness basketball games has called the five million visits chalked up over 56 games “absolutely outstanding.” In an interview with the online edition of Business Week, ad manager Dino Bernacchi said that the webcasts, together with TV ads, increased traffic to a Pontiac site by at least 10-15 percent. Advertisers said the audience was about twice what CBS had promised....

ALL EYES ON BLINDNESS AT CANNES The 61st annual Cannes Film Festival gets under way tonight (Wednesday) with a screening of Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles apocalyptic thriller Blindness, about a plague of blindness that sweeps the world. The opening-night film is also competing for the festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or. In recent years, the Cannes jury – this year’s is headed by Sean Penn – has made selections for the prize that have stunned many film journalists and critics in attendance – but few have complained about the choices....

LAST-MINUTE REPRIEVE FOR SPONGEBOB Time Warner Cable subscribers did not see SpongeBob SquarePants and Jon Stewart vanish from their TV sets Wednesday night, thanks to a last-minute agreement between the cable company and Viacom. The deal came after the two sides conducted rankorous exchanges between themselves at the negotiating table and on television over Viacom’s demand for an increase in carriage fees. At midnight, when the deal finally expired, they agreed to keep on talking, and finally, about an hour later, they reached an agreement (but did not make the terms public)....

FISHBURNE MAKES SOLID DEBUT ON CSI CBS’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, in its first episode without star William L. Peterson but with its new star, Laurence Fishburne, attracted 17.53 million viewers Thursday night, making it the most-watched show of the night. ABC rival Grey’s Anatomy drew 14.25 million viewers, but it was the top draw among adults 18-49. Meanwhile, Bones, moving to a new night, produced solid results for Fox with two one-hour episodes....

DISUNITY HITS ACTORS’ UNIONS Growing tension between the two major actors’ unions, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, became more conspicuous Tuesday as SAG National Executive Director Doug Allen sent a letter to members accusing AFTRA of signing agreements with producers of one-hour cable-TV shows that “seem more advantageous to producers than Screen Actors Guild contracts would be.” Insisting that such programs have “historically been work within Screen Actors Guild jurisdiction,” Allen said that AFTRA’s willingness to make concessions to producers that SAG would not “pits union against union and actor against actor and results only in less to actors....

DVDs were toasted in Los Angeles recently! In a story from Home Media Magazine, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Disney and a bunch of other studios had a lot to smile about at “the third annual DVD Critics Awards: The Perfect Ten, held June 18 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, Calif.” The awards ceremony “took place at the Sixth Annual Home Entertainment Summit: DVD & Beyond, produced by Home Media Magazine and DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group in cooperation with The Hollywood Reporter and the Entertainment Merchants Association....
