HOLIDAY CROWDS EXPECTED AT MOVIE THEATERS The weekend before the Christmas holiday will see crowded marquees as three films make their debut, each of which is likely to overtake last week’s winner, Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, according to analysts. However, there is no consensus on which of the three, Eragon, Charlotte’s Web, or The Pursuit of Happyness will come out on top. Joining them in very limited release will be Paramount’s musical, Dreamgirls,in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco and Warner Bros....

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY KNOCKED UP MAKES PIRATES WALK THE PLANK Stunning film executives, Universal’s Knocked Up,playing in 2,871 theaters, has taken over the lead from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, playing in 4,362 theaters, since the weekend. On Monday, Knocked Up recorded $4,375,000 in ticket sales compared with $4,180,000 for Pirates. On Tuesday, Knocked Upincreased its lead, posting $4,115,000 to Pirates’$3,715,000. And on Wednesday, the R-rated comedy retained the lead with $3,660,000 to $3,490,000 for the Disney blockbuster, according to figures from box-office trackers Media by Numbers....

Suddenly LG Electronics, Warner Bros. and New Line look like they might be on to something. In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, a new report from Screen Digest seems to show “that Blu-ray and HD-DVD” will be able to both remain on shelves “for the foreseeable future in the U.S and Western Europe.” This new report “examines the evolution of the high-definition market until 2011, suggests that studios supporting only a single format will be missing out on significant potential revenues in coming years by not making their product available on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD....

There haven’t been many updates lately on the progress of Super Troopers 3: Winter Soldiers, but the comedy sequel is still in gestation. From the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, the first Super Troopers movie was a big success when it was released in theaters in 2001. It was directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, who later returned to the director’s chair for the first sequel Super Troopers 2 in 2018. That same year, Chandrasekhar Super Troopers 3, but progress on the project has since been rather slow....

The Walking Dead universe will be expanding despite the fact that the main show is ending relatively soon. Jorge Camara, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, announced the timetable for The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards to be broadcast in HD Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 5-8 PM (PST) and 8-11 PM (EST) live from The Beverly Hilton on NBC. “In this age when news is disseminated with increasing rapidity, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to announce that this year’s Golden Globe Awards telecast will be aired live nationwide,” said Camara....

FX has placed a 13-episode order for its next drama series The Americans, announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks. The series begins production in October and is scheduled to premiere in early 2013. The Americans, created by Joseph Weisberg and starring Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich, is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President....

Following the news that Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke were in talks to appear in Iron Man 2, Rockwell has decided to break the silence about his involvement in the film.
