SEGA of America Inc., SEGA Europe Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising today announced a worldwide exclusive agreement to bring game content based on the critically-acclaimed Alien film franchise to next-generation gaming systems. Multiple titles, including a first-person shooter and a role playing game, are currently in pre-production with the first to be released in 2009. Securing the rights to produce Alien titles reinforces SEGA’s strategy of combining premium licensed content with original IP to aggressively expand its global business....

The production will be an Off-Broadway stage show that brings all our favorite neighbors to live audiences. Severance, the sci-fi series of Apple TV +, which has been regarded as one of the best series of 2022 and in recent years by many, will return for the second season. The Emmy-winning series will introduce fresh faces in its new season. The workplace drama hit has been in production since October and is likely to extend to May 2023. However, despite its praise, it returned from the Golden Globe’s with only nominations, despite its success in ratings, reviews, and awards....

The world of British film in the ’90s was due for a bit of a shakeup. The first big hit of the decade was unsurprisingly, a World War II film called Memphis Beale (1990), starring Matthew Modine and Billy Zane. While it performed exceedingly well, reviewers at the time couldn’t help but point out its somewhat hollow, clichéd formula. A couple of years later, the period drama Remains of the Day (1993) topped the British box office, following a lovelorn butler through the telling of his life story....

Shawn Levy will produce two new films two new TV pilots through his 21 Laps Entertainment; most likely, he’ll also direct as well. On the film side, Universal has picked up Alex Williams’ fantasy novel, The Talent Thief; Variety notes Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay will write the screenplay about a boy trying to thwart a villain who’s using a bizarre creature to steal people’s special talents. The other film for Fox is the dramedy, Father Figurema written by Mark Friedman....

Shazam has it all: wisdom, strength, stamina, power, courage and speed! 2019’s Shazam! saw young Billy Batson step into the golden boots of an all-powerful superhero thanks to a mysterious old wizard. Funny, moving, and totally action-packed, the beloved film is finally getting a sequel in the form of Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Of course, new movies mean new villains, and the upcoming flick appears to be playing all its casting aces....

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Cowell is singing Duets with Fox. The network has given a cast-contingent order to an unscripted singing competition series from the American Idol star that would have professional singers partnering with celebrities outside of the music business to perform duets in front of a live studio audience. The format, which Cowell sold to U.K.’s ITV last month, features each duo setting a musical theme from which they pick songs to perform in front of a panel of judges, with viewers having the final say in voting off contestants (HR 12/2)....

CBS All Access, the CBS Television Network’s digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service, today announced season one of its hit original series Star Trek Discovery will return with chapter two beginning on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 after 8:30 PM, ET. The second chapter of Star Trek: Discovery begins with episode 10, “Despite Yourself.” While in unfamiliar territory, the U.S.S. Discovery crew is forced to get creative in their next efforts to survive opposing and unprecedented forces and return home....

SEPTEMBER IN APRIL AT BOX OFFICE There was likely to be hand-wringing aplenty at the studios today (Monday) in the aftermath of a weekend in which the top film earned less than $10 million and the top 12 movies took in a combined $62.9 million. Ordinarily, that’s the kind of box-office total that analysts expect in September, when kids return to school. Spider-Man 3, which opens Friday, is expected to earn twice that amount – on its own – next weekend....

JURY, CRITICS AGREE ON CANNES WINNER For a change, the jury at the Cannes Film Festival found itself in agreement with critics as it voted the prestigious Palme d’Or for best film Saturday to the Romanian entry 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. The film tells of a young woman’s effort to get an abortion two years before the toppling of Romania’s ruthless Communist regime in 1989. The film by director Cristian Mungiu received overwhelmingly favorable reviews when it opened at the beginning of the festival and was quickly bought by IFC for domestic release....

MURDOCH DEAL TO BUY WSJ MAY BE ANNOUNCED TODAY The family that owns the Wall Street Journaland Rupert Murdoch are close to an agreement that would safeguard the editorial independence of the newspaper if Murdoch takes it over, according to an article appearing in the Journaltoday (Tuesday). Such an agreement, which could come as early as today, the paper said, would seemingly guarantee a sale of the Journal’s parent, Dow Jones, to Murdoch’s News Corp for $5 billion, although the Journalsaid that some members of the Bancroft family are holding out for a higher figure....

RAYS SHINE ON CABLE, SET RECORD Proving that there’s nothing like a David-over-Goliath victory, especially when it comes in the final round, the Tampa Bay Rays’ triumph over the Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series Sunday set a record as the most-watched baseball game ever televised on cable TV. While The Walking Dead fans are starting to lose hope of ever seeing the fabled Rick Grimes movie spin-off, the latest spin-off series, Tales of The Walking Dead, will begin shooting next week in Georgia. Following in the footsteps of Fear the Walking Dead and the recently ended Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tales of The Walking Dead will further expand the television universe and has already been hinted as a brand new type of series, which will not follow the format of its predecessors and fans can expect a different viewing experience from the show....

Horror filmmaker Josh Ruben (Scare Me, Werewolves Within) has lined up the two lead stars of his next feature film. Variety reports that Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Orphan Black) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream, Scream VI) have signed on to co-star in Green Bank, a sci-fi horror movie helmed by Ruben. Written by Aaron Horwitz (The Cleansing Hour), Green Bank hails from Protagonist Pictures with Horwitz’s Big Swell Entertainment producing....

Taylor Swift revealed that she screen tested for a role in the film adaptation of Les Misérables, and she says that the experience was a “nightmare.” While appearing on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show to promote her new album Midnights, the star shared that she had been auditioning for two roles in the 2012 film—heroines Cosette and Éponine— and though she knew she was unlikely to get either, she jumped at the chance to screen test with star Eddie Redmayne....

While we fondly remember the main heroes that feature in our favorite movies, it’s often that some of the supporting cast can often win our hearts. This is perhaps why a film just doesn’t feature one lead character, but has a bunch of other periphery characters doing their bit to support the story. As it is often the case with action, amidst the heavy downpour of bullets and the loud bangs of explosions, a comic break isn’t just precedented but necessary as well....
