The governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences finalized the rules for the 83rd Academy Awards at its most recent meeting (June 22). The most significant change is in the Visual Effects category, which will now feature five nominees rather than three. Since 1963, when the Special Effects award was discontinued and new separate categories for achievements in visual effects and sound effects were established, the only period during which it was possible to have five visual effects nominees was 1977 through 1979....

The Teen Wolf: The Movie panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con has confirmed that the new Teen Wolf spin-off series Wolf Pack will be led by Sarah Michelle Gellar. Having spent her younger years fighting vampires as Buffy Summers, Gellar will now be heading into werewolf territory for the new series. According to Deadline, the series will see Gellar’s character enlisted “by authorities to catch the teenage arsonist who started a massive wildfire which may have also led to the reawakening of a supernatural predator terrorizing Los Angeles....

I’ll start off by saying that I’m not a big horror fan to begin with. That being said, it’s kind of hard for me to judge a film like “Saw 3D,” which is the seventh in the series. The only “Saw” movie that I’ve seen is last year’s “Saw VI,” which I didn’t really hate. I guess I didn’t really dislike Saw 3D all that much either, but perhaps its the shock value of these films that has just begun to ware off of me....

Ausiello Files is reporting that Smallville’s final Comic-Con panel will feature series star Tom Welling making his second appearance at the San Diego convention.
