Apple has released the first trailer for its highly anticipated sci-fi original Swan Song. After three successful movies starring Liam Neeson, filmmaker Luc Besson is taking the Bryan Mills character to the small screen with a new Taken TV series, debuting Monday, February 27 at 10 PM ET on NBC. Today we have the first trailer, which reveals the personal tragedy that leads Bryan Mills (Clive Standen) to be recruited into the CIA. While traveling to visit his parents with his sister, Bryan Mills’ train is attacked by gunman, which sets him on a path to become the character fans have grown to love from the movie series....

The Academy is moving forward with their formal review of what happened between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars on Sunday evening. As was seen live by millions of viewers worldwide, Rock had joked about Jada Pinkett Smith by suggesting that he couldn’t wait to see her in G.I. Jane 2. This led to Smith approaching Rock and smacking him across the face, followed by screaming profanities at the comedian over the joke....

While we have seen a few snapshots of Scream and X star Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in the upcoming Netflix series, Wednesday, we have yet to see anything of the rest of The Addams Family. Well, that has now changed thanks to Vanity Fair, which has unveiled several images from the series. It’s not Denzel, but another American Gangster is hitting the DVD shelves this February. The American Gangster will be released on DVD, for the first time by itself, on February 19. It will be priced at $14.98 SRP The disc was previously a part of the Mob Box Set collection. The documentary is narrated by Dennis Farina. The documentary explores the lives of America’s first generation of gangsters including Charlie “Lucky” Luciano, Benjamin Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky who started out as three young hoods in the slums of New York and wound up absolute rulers of a kingdom founded on liquor, loan sharking, gambling and extortion....

Some of the greatest horror TV shows are spinoffs of movies that have already scared up success. Bates Motel is no exception. Robert Bloch’s hit novel Psycho inspired the film Psycho, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Bates Motel functions as a prequel to the story, positioning its dynamic duo in their earlier era before the film’s storyline begins. The show puts a fresh spin on the classic and takes a lot of creative liberties, including setting the story in modern-day Oregon instead of California....

The recent tease for the upcoming The Boys spin-off, Gen V, has fans excited about a new chapter in the violent comic book franchise. However, we shouldn’t expect to see a host of other shows branching out from the main series, as showrunner Eric Kripke has made it clear that he doesn’t have any intention of pushing out a continuous stream of related shows. While popular series like Stranger Things and Game of Thrones have a number of spin-offs in development, it seems that Kripke doesn’t have the same kind of vision for The Boys....

Robert Rodriguez (Grindhouse) will produce a new big-screen adaptation of Red Sonja, with his real-life flame Rose McGowan to play the flame-haired comic-book vixen. Douglas Aarniokoski will direct the film, expected to release in 2010, according to USA Today. “I was surprised when Rose brought me a script of Red Sonja that she liked,” Rodriguez says from his home base of Austin, where he is shooting Shorts, a family film with James Spader and Jon Cryer....

Sci Fi Channel has ordered a new series that continues the Stargate franchise from MGM Television, “Stargate: Universe,” that will mark the third entry in Sci Fi’s longest-running original series franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the green light comes on the heels of Sci Fi’s confirming Thursday that Stargate: Atlantis will not receive a sixth-season order. The “Universe” pickup ensures the continuation of the popular Stargate franchise, which has been on the air in various incarnations since 1997....

Director Kathryn Bigelow has already lined up her next film after her Best Picture-winning The Hurt Locker, and now it seems she may have some A-list talent for this follow-up project. Argentinian newspaper La Nacion is reporting that actors Sean Penn, Denzel Washington and Javier Bardem are up for roles in Bigleow’s Triple Frontier. The Playlist speculates, however, that those actors were mentioned because of a New York Times article that featured screenwriter Mark Boal mentioning all three actors for a future project....

Showtime Networks has ordered a new, eight-hour television event based upon last year’s Golden Golden-nominated miniseries, Sleeper Cell, it was announced today by Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. Michael Ealy (Barbershop, “Their Eyes Were Watching God”) and Oded Fehr (Resident Evil: Apocalypse, The Mummy) re-team for the frighteningly realistic drama, set to begin production in Los Angeles this summer.
