According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sci Fi Channel is getting into business with Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television again by giving the green light to production of a 12-hour miniseries titled Nine Lives, NBC Universal Cable executives said Thursday. If you’ve been on Hulu or TikTok in the past month, you’re probably at least vaguely familiar with the new Zoey Deutch-headed film Not Okay. The feature from Quinn Shephard sees Deutch as an “unlikable female protagonist,” i.e., an ambitious journalist willing to do anything for attention. Mostly from that of her vape-god coworker (played by a bleached and tatted Dylan O’Brien), but also the world in general. The film lives up to its promise - Danni Sanders is definitely not very likable, as she lies to the whole world that she witnessed a terrorist attack in Paris....
Simon Cowell is in talks with his former American Idol co-star Paula Abdul and his current X Factor U.K. co-star Cheryl Cole to take judging positions on Fox’s upcoming The X Factor, which will premiere fall 2011. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Abdul and Cole would assure a certain degree of comfortable chemistry between Cowell and other judges on the new series. Abdul in particular would allow Cowell to reform the heart of the longtime American Idol judging team, which was split when Abdul quit the show in August amid contract dispute....

VIEWERS FLEEING BROADCAST NETWORKS If the broadcast networks are experiencing a distressing drop in ad sales, they cannot blame the problem entirely on the recession, the latest Nielsen ratings indicate. While three of the four – CBS was the exception – experienced some erosion in audience numbers during the regular season, the summer season has seen a wholesale exodus for all of them. Last week, Fox’s audience was down a whopping 25 percent from the comparable week a year ago....
NIELSEN ROLLS OUT ITS RATINGS AGAIN Nielsen’s ratings logjam, created by what it described as “server issues,” was slowly being cleared away Thursday as the company finally released data for Monday and Tuesday’s primetime programming. According to TheDisInsider, Taika Waititi has signed on to direct Disney’s Tower of Terror reboot movie. The Tower of Terror project also features Scarlett Johansson, who is attached as a producer. The status on this film was in jeopardy when Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney over their decision to put Black Widow on Disney+ Premier Access the same day as theaters. However, Disney and Johansson have settled, and the project seems to still be in development....
