Smallville duo Tom Welling and Erica Durance have backed the idea of reprising their respective roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane and continuing the multiversal story revealed during the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths event. Appearing at MCM Comic Con in London (via LegendaryDuo), both Welling and Durance revealed that they would love to come back for more as the iconic DC couple. “Like our own multiverse? Sure. Why not,” Welling said when asked if he would be interested in exploring the multiversal plotline....

Director Parker Finn has offered an enticing update on a sequel to his directorial debut, Smile. Speaking with Comicbook.com, the filmmaker revealed that, while he made Smile as a standalone horror outing, he intentionally left some threads hanging just in case. Finn continued, teasing an “exciting” and “unexpected” way into Smile 2. While remaining coy on the details, the director assured audiences that he still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, and would strive not to repeat himself should Smile 2 get the green light....

Sony DADC today announced the production of its 10 millionth 50 Gigabyte Blu-ray Disc (BD50). Sony DADC manufactures BD50s in its three plants, located in Terre Haute, Indiana; Salzburg, Austria; and Shizuoka, Japan. The ten millionth BD50 was manufactured at Sony DADC’s Terre Haute facility, and was “Spider-Man(TM) 3” from Columbia Pictures. Since the launch of this High Definition format, Sony DADC has produced more than 50 million Blu-ray Discs in its three plants, In addition, these three plants have a combined Blu-ray manufacturing capacity of 21 million discs per month....

Don’t think that Sony is sitting on it’s hands during the format war… In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, the company will be bringing out “four models of new Blu-ray high-definition optical disc recorders in November in Japan.” Apparently these units will be “capable of storing up to 16 hours of high-definition programs on a dual-layer, 50-GB Blu-ray disc, will go on sale on Nov. 8.” Previous versions of Blu-ray Disc recorders “were unable to record on a dual-layer disc....

For the first time, Sprite Zero Sugar is sponsoring a movie (for Sprite, it’s the first time in about 40 years), Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, set to hit theaters on November 11. To market the upcoming sequel to 2018’s Black Panther, starring the late Chadwick Boseman, Marvel and Coca-Cola have teamed up to launch an immersive 360-degree campaign, “Hall of Zero Limits,” which unlocks exclusive behind-the-scenes video content profiling some multicultural women behind the film....

As a director who was arguably as passionate about film as he was controversial, his infamous reputation often yielded especially strict rules for actors who worked under him, no matter how-profile they were. According to a report by SlashFilm, both Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were subject to this while working on what would be Kubrick’s swan song....

Ever since the Stranger Things Twitter started their #StrangerThursdays tradition, the streaming service has been debuting a new poster every week that pays tribute to a 1980s classic. Today we get the latest poster, which honors the 1985 classic The Goonies, featuring practically all of the major characters returning from the breakout season. While none of these posters reveal any new details of the upcoming season, this Stranger Things Season 2 poster pays tribute to one of the movies that helped inspire this series....

With fans awaiting the fourth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, creators and showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer have been discussing the hit sci-fi horror series, saying that they have a “general sense” of where the story is headed, adding that they’ve known how the show will end “for quite a while.” “We like to look at each season as kind of its own complete story. We do have a pretty large mythology,” Matt Duffer has said of the show’s mysterious lore....

Stranger Things season 4 was always going to be a huge event this summer, and it has not disappointed. In new figures revealed by Nielsen, following the massive debut of 5.14 billion minutes viewed during its premiere week on Netflix, the series smashed the single-week record between May 30 and June 5 pulling in an unprecedented 7.2 billion viewed minutes. To put this into context, no streaming series has ever managed to hit 6 billion viewed minutes in a week since Nielsen started putting out data two years ago, and the closest contenders have been the likes of Tiger King and Ozark, which both made it into 5 billion but nowhere near the level of Stranger Things....

MOVIE REVIEWS: SNAKES ON A PLANE Film critics finally were given a chance to see Snakes on a Plane Thursday night and many of them stayed up late afterwards to knock out their reviews. Most succeeded only in posting them on their respective papers’ websites, but some also were able to speed them out fast enough to get them in print, many of the reviews tagged with the word “Exclusive!” above the headline....

i>SPEED RACER A WRECK ON FIRST LAP Warner Bros.’ Speed Racer was barely able to go from zero to 20 – $20 million, that is – and could turn out to become one of the biggest box-office wrecks in history. Most analysts low-balled their predictions at around $30-40 million, a conservative figure in itself given industry estimates that it cost as much as $300 million to produce and market. BOX-OFFICE BLAHS Despite four new films opening wide over the weekend, the box office was down more than 10 percent from the same week last year. The top film, Lakeview Terrace, starring Samuel L. Jackson, collected an estimated $15.6 million. It pushed last week’s winner, the Coen brothers’ Burn After Reading to second place with $11.3 million. My Best Friend’s Girl opened in third place with $8.3 million, followed by the animated Igor, which opened in fourth with $8 million....

FOURTH-PLACE NBC SHOWS OFF ONLY FIVE NEW SHOWS Despite conspicuous weaknesses throughout its schedule, NBC on Monday unveiled only five new dramas and one new comedy for its upcoming fall schedule. At a news conference in New York, NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly explained, “Loading up on product is not necessarily a recipe for success” since each new show would have to be promoted – leading to a plethora of “clutter” on the network....

Director Jason Reitman proves Hollywood nepotism isn’t all bad with his stunning feature length debut, “Thank You for Smoking”. The son of famed comedic director Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), Jason’s adaptation of Christopher Buckley’s novel is a wildly creative and pointed satirical comedy. Aaron Eckhart, in a stellar performance, stars as smooth talking tobacco lobbyist Nick Naylor. Nick spends his days skillfully fending off congress, eating lunch with the “merchants of death” (alcohol and firearm lobbyists played by Maria Bello and David Koechner), and trying to be a good dad to his disillusioned pre-teen son (Cameron Bright)....

We all love a good fight scene - think of the visceral combat, weighty blows, and exquisite choreography of The Matrix or Mission Impossible: Fallout. The brawls of these and other Hollywood blockbusters can trace their lineage to the legendary martial arts films of China, Thailand, Indonesia, and elsewhere. The Matrix in particular was directly inspired by Shaolin kung fu and Tai Chi, as noted by GQ, and the Wachowskis hired famed Hong Kong choreographer Yuen Woo-ping to coordinate its fight sequences....

We just reported that Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will have a female sidekick in The Avengers. Now a list of contenders for that role has been released, which includes top contender Morena Baccarin (V) as well as Jessica Lucas (Melrose Place), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World). Marvel is holding screen tests for the role this Friday. Jessica Lucas, Cobie Smulders, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are still negotiating their test deals, which includes a nine-picture option for whoever lands the role....
