Netflix has announced the all-star guest lineup for Seth Rogen’s Hilarity for Charity. Seth Rogen and friends combine stand-up, sketches, and music into an awesome comedy special. The event takes place this weekend at the Hollywood Palladium, but Netflix subscribers all over the world will be able to watch the event for the first time ever in April. This is the first year that Hilarity for Charity will have been filmed for broadcast....

Sexy witches, vampires, and even Pennywise are all the rage this Halloween or any Halloween, really, but a new “sexy” costume based on Eleven from Stranger Things has taken things too far and people are really upset about it. Netflix’s Stranger Things is all the rage right now as Season 2 quickly approaches. There’s the SNES-themed retro game as well as a plethora of amazing promotional posters that pay homage to the classic movies that have inspired the hit show, but all of the aforementioned material is officially sanctioned by Netflix....

As has been seen many times recently, mergers between entertainment providers come with a high number of casualties, much to the disappointment of viewers. The latest merger will see Showtime becoming part of the newly branded Paramount+ with Showtime. Following announcements that popular shows like American Gigolo and Let the Right One In will not be returning for more seasons, Showtime has canceled new series Three Women and will not be airing any of the completed episodes, via Deadline....

Prime Video continues to get into the supernatural and strange. Following the release of Outer Range, the streaming service has unveiled its next science fiction series, Night Sky. The trailer can be viewed below. Night Sky stars Sissy Spacek (1976’s Carrie, Homecoming) and J.K. Simmons (Invincible, Being the Ricardos) as the elderly couple, Irene and Franklin York, who hold an incredible secret on their property. We see Franklin pushing Irene in a wheelchair late at night and open a secret door that leads, according to a homemade sign, “to the stars....

First HD-DVD now Blu-ray… In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Corp is lowering the price of their new BDP-S300 Blu-ray player from $599 to $499. According to the story, this “new player costs half of what the company’s first Blu-ray player cost when it launched just six months ago – probably one of the fastest price declines in the consumer electronics industry.” The BDP-S300 has about the same features as the original player, the BDP-S1, but the new player is smaller....

Sony Pictures Studios announced beginning June 14, visitors will be able to take Twilight Tours of the historic studio every Thursday through September 28th. “From The Wizard of Oz to Spider-Man 3, this is the lot where dreams are made,” said Pam Byrne, Director of Studio Services. “Now people can enjoy warm summer evenings by experiencing the glamour and history of Sony Pictures Studios. Based on the epic novels of Dav Pilkey (over 80 million copies in print!) comes the Captain Underpants Halloween special, DreamWorks The Spooky Tales of Captain Underpants: Hack-A-Ween premiering on Netflix Tuesday, October 8th! When mean Principal Krupp and evil boy-genius Melvin make Halloween illegal and institute “Hall-no-Ween,” George and Harold team up with their friends to hack their favorite holiday, creating Hack-A-Ween. The kids wear disguises instead of costumes, carve cabbages instead of pumpkins, and get snacks instead of candy....

Steven Spielberg has won the 2023 Golden Globe for Best Director of a Motion Picture. Nominated this year for his deeply personal, semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans, the award marks Spielberg’s third Best Director win and his 20th nomination. The legendary filmmaker previously took home the statuette in 1994 for Schindler’s List and again in 1999 for Saving Private Ryan. In his acceptance speech, Spielberg said that although he’s tried to put bits and pieces of the personal story into several films throughout his lengthy career, he found himself “hiding” from the story until he could portray it through the fictitious Fabelmans....

WAGNER’S EXIT ROCKS UA In an announcement that stunned Hollywood, Paula Wagner, Tom Cruise’s business partner, said Wednesday that she is stepping down as CEO of United Artists in order “to return to my true love, which is making movies.” Wagner and Cruise had been recruited by MGM chief Harry Sloan in 2006 to revive UA and given a 30-percent ownership of the studio, but the studio’s projects have been minimal....

THIS IS IT ABOUT “THIS IS IT” Sony Pictures on Thursday released new information about its plans for Michael Jackson: This Is It, the movie being pieced together from a reported 100 hours of rehearsal footage that was shot prior to the singer’s death in June. The studio, which reportedly paid $60 million for the raw footage, pushed the opening up two days to October 28, announced that it would remain in theaters just two weeks, and set September 27 as the date it would make tickets available....

FOUR FILMS ADDED TO MARQUEES Four new films will crowd into an already overcrowded box office over the weekend, and analysts are having a hard time predicting which of them will be able to claim victory. Warner Bros./New Line’s romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into Youappears to have an inside track, especially since Valentines are ubiquitous (the actual Valentines Day hits next weekend) and since going to the movies is not on everyone’s mind at this time of year....

COMING: COMPUTER-GENERATED ACTORS Silicon Valley is on the verge of producing sophisticated software that will allow motion picture companies to create actors on a computer who are visually indistinguishable from real people, San Jose’s Mercury News reported today (Thursday). In the words of the newspaper,which closely follows the sofware industry, when software engineers finally achieve what it calls “the holy grail of animation,” stars would be able to “keep playing iconic roles even as they aged past the point of believability like Angilina Jolie as Lara Croft or Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter....

Thanos took a visit to Springfield in the latest couch gag on The Simpsons. Fox’s long-running animated sitcom is currently in the middle of celebrating its landmark 30th season, which kicked off last fall. Over the years a lot has changed, but we still get a new couch gag every week and it’s impressive how creative those working on the show can still manage to be after all these years. Case in point, they brought one of the most iconic villains in the history of the Marvel universe into the fold for their latest episode for a pretty memorable opening....
