NBC AND WGA ENGAGE IN PICKET FENCING NBC claimed Friday that any attempt by the Writers Guild of America to enforce strike rules barring Jay Leno from writing his monologue for the Tonightshow would violate federal labor laws. It did not specify which labor laws would be violated. Meanwhile Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg issued a statement that appeared to encourage actors to appear on The Late Show With David Lettermanand Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson– which have signed separate agreements with the WGA – and discourage actors from appearing on NBC- and ABC-produced talk shows....

The CW has released new trailers for the midseason premieres of Supergirl, airing Monday, January 23, and The Flash, airing Tuesday, January 24. Actress Susan Sarandon is in talks to join the cast of Snitch for Exclusive Media and writer-director Ric Roman Waugh. The story centers on a father (Dwayne Johnson) who is devastated by his son being sentenced to 30 years in prison on drug charges. He takes extreme measures by going behind bars as an undercover prison informant to bust a major drug dealer, in hopes of securing a commuted sentence for his son....

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show,” Taron Egerton opened up about his upcoming series Black Bird and what it was like working with the late Ray Liotta. Egerton plays Jimmy Keene, a convict who must befriend a serial killer to get time off his sentence. Liotta plays the father of Egerton’s character, James or Big Jim, a decorated cop who, behind closed doors, was a little shady....

According to Bloody Disgusting, FX artist Tom Devlin has finished production on his feature directorial debut, Teddy Told Me To. The film revolves around a pair of haunters who set out to resurrect a shuttered Halloween haunt with a bloody past. The plan is for the third Terrifier movie to take the series back to its roots. At this point, filmmaker Damien Leone is planning to make Terrifier 3 following the recent success of Terrifier 2. The recently-announced Golden Globe nominations have created a lot of buzz, and leading the nominations is The Banshees of Inisherin, an unusual drama-comedy written and directed by Martin McDonagh. Russell Crowe is playing both the Sheriff of Nottingham (as previously reported) and also taking the role of Robin Hood in Nottingham, director Ridley Scott told MTV News during a Body of Lies interview. According to the director himself: Sienna Miller has already been cast as Maid Marian in the film, which was recently put on hold to work on the current version of the screenplay. “He’s playing both!” [Ridley Scott told] exclusively to MTV News during an interview for his new film “Body of Lies,” which co-stars Crowe....

Even before any official footage has been released, the new Barbie movie has its fair share of critics, but Ryan Gosling isn’t taking criticisms of his portrayal of Ken lying down. A planned TV series continuation of Cruel Intentions never made it to air, but it’s clearly a good thing for original star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Back in 2016, NBC had ordered a pilot for a Cruel Intentions show which would have been set 17 years after the events of the film. It had Gellar reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil as she tries to take control of Valmont International following the death of Ryan Phillipe’s character, Sebastian Valmont....

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired the rights in North America to Malik Bendjelloul’s directorial debut, Searching for Sugar Man. The film is produced by Simon Chinn of Red Box Films (Project Nim, Man on Wire) and executive produced by John Battsek of Passion Pictures (The Tillman Story, One Day in September) in association with Canfield Pictures and The Documentary Company. Searching for Sugar Man had its world premiere last night as the Opening Night Film of the World Cinema Documentary Competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival....
